Following the enormous success of the June Arts of the American West auctions, the October Western Art and Sculpture auction is expected to achieve the same outstanding results.

“The demand for Western art has continued to grow - we saw overwhelming results from our June auction and we are looking forward to the continued success in this category,” said Kate Hlavin, Director and Senior Specialist of Western Art, “October’s auction should generate a lot of excitement for Western art collectors with the exceptional group of works our team has assembled.”

Among the top lots of the auction are two works by Henry Francois Farny. The artist hailed from Ohio, but was most famous for his scenes of Western and Native American life. From the Cincinnati, Ohio estate of Ellen Graydon Hill, these works each depict his most iconic subjects. This Wyoming landscape comes from the Midwestern collection of William L. Taylor and holds a presale estimate of $100,000-150,000. Additionally, Sharp’s oil on canvas, Portrait of Indian with Drum and Pipe, from the collection of noted Ohio philanthropist and collector, Dorothy “Bunny” Whitaker will be offered with an estimate of $40,000-60,000.

Of particular note, is a corporate art collection that includes a number of important Western and Native American artists. Featured in this collection are Fritz Scholder’s expansive oil on canvas, Indian Messiah, which is expected to sell between $20,000-40,000, as well as multiple works by Earl Biss, Billy Schenck and Dan Namingha. Earl Biss’s Ritual Dance of the Moon Hunters holds a presale estimate of $15,000-20,000 and Billy Schenk’s Days of August is estimated at $8,000-12,000.

Another exciting collection Hindman is proud to offer is the Mandelman - Ribak Collection, sold for the benefit of the University of New Mexico. Each work is a colorful abstract composition in acrylic, including top lots 90-NY04 and Sun Series B-21, estimated at $7,000-9,000 and $5,000-7,000, respectively.

Other highlights of the auction include, Oscar Berninghaus’s, Back from the Hills, which holds a presale estimate of $20,000-30,000, Kenneth Riley’s oil on canvas works, Indian Camp in Mount Valley, estimated at $30,000-50,000 and Canyon Morning, expected to sell between $20,000-40,000.
