BASEL, SWITZERLAND.- Kunstmuseum Basel presents Atlantic & Bukarest - Photography, Film and Video: New Acquisitions of the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Emanuel Hoffmann-Stiftung, on view through 10 April 2005 and curated by Bernhard Mendes Bürgi. "Atlantic", a video installation by Pierre Huyghe, and "Bukarest", photographs by Günther Förg, provide the title, by way of association, for this exhibition, which shows the spectrum of new acquisitions of the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation. In addition to Förg and Huyghe, other important representatives in the field of contemporary photography, film and video engage in dialogue, among them Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Andreas Gursky, Sherrie Levine, Steve McQueen, Richard Prince and Thomas Ruff. Seriality and variation, appropriation and individual expression give fresh and novel impetus to classical genres such as the portrait, the still life and the landscape.
