NEW YORK, NY.- Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York and Aspen, and Night Gallery, Los Angeles, are thrilled to announce co-representation of Danielle Mckinney. Mckinney’s exhibition Smoke and Mirrors is currently on view at Night Gallery through June 19th, 2021. Marianne Boesky Gallery will present a forthcoming exhibition of new works by the artist, which will be on view June 24th through July 25th, 2021, in Aspen, CO.

Danielle Mckinney is a New Jersey-based painter known for evocative portraits of imagined figures that stand in as the artist’s self-reflections. Drawing from a background in fine arts photography, Mckinney’s portraits contain rich plays of light and dark values against somber backgrounds of spare yet richly expressive brushstrokes. Emerging from this darkness, Mckinney’s singular images reach the viewer with a stunning clarity, creating iconographic vignettes of human feeling. At once recalling masterpieces across art history as well as the immediacy of social media imagery, Mckinney’s tableaux exist out of time, conjuring moments of passion, reflection, and catharsis.

“We are pleased to announce co-representation of Danielle Mckinney with our colleagues at Night Gallery, Los Angeles. Danielle has a singular vision and ability to capture immense emotional depth in the nuances of her paintings. We are excited to share her new paintings this summer in Aspen.” – Marianne Boesky, founder of Marianne Boesky Gallery

"Danielle Mckinney's stunning paintings demonstrate an uncommon talent, and I am very excited to see where her vision leads her next. Night Gallery is thrilled to represent Danielle alongside Marianne Boesky Gallery and are delighted to present her Los Angeles debut, Smoke and Mirrors, which opened in May 2021 and is currently on view at the gallery." – Davida Nemeroff, owner of Night Gallery.

Danielle Mckinney (b. 1981, Montgomery, AL) recently opened her exhibition Smoke and Mirrors at Night Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, with a forthcoming solo exhibition at Marianne Boesky Gallery, Aspen, CO. In Spring 2021, she presented the exhibition Saw My Shadow at Fortnight Institute, New York, NY. Mckinney’s work has also been featured in group exhibitions at Half Gallery, New York and the FLAG Art Foundation, New York. Mckinney has been featured in publications including Elephant, Artnet News, Mousse, and Juxtapoz. She lives and works in Jersey City, NJ.
