NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s will present the online auction Treasures of a Storied Manhattan Collection which is open for bidding June 15-July 1. The carefully selected collection from the Park Avenue pied-à-terre formerly owned by Enid Annenberg Haupt encompasses 130 lots of European furniture and decorative art, Chinese furniture and ceramics, 19th century porcelain and silver, and 20th/21st century works of art.

The sale features many esteemed objects from renowned private collections such as a spectacular armoire that is a rare example of early French ébénisterie incorporating Chinese lacquer on a large scale previously in the Estate of Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard (estimate: $80,000-120,000). The armoire has the particularly unusual feature of being signed twice by the maker Louis Guignard, once in red chalk, and once through an incised inscription, and dated 1723, before the guild system imposed a strict system of stamps on cabinet-makers. A Charles II Japanese mother-of-pearl inset Namban lacquer and silvered cabinet-on-stand, the cabinet circa 1600, which was formerly in the collection of Gordon and Ann Getty, would have been among the first Japanese export lacquer goods to arrive in the West (estimate: $20,000-40,000).

A set of historical French wallpaper panels, Allegories Des Arts, circa 1800, were possibly made by Jacquemart & Benard after the design by Percier et Fontaine, court architects of Napoleon Bonaparte (estimate: $20,000-40,000). The panels are a rare survival which the famous interior designer Frances Elkins bought for an important and celebrated joint commission with her brother David Adler, architect for Mr. and Mrs. Albert D. Lasker and their residence in Lake Forest, outside of Chicago.

Additional highlights of the collection include an important pair of George II armchairs after a design by William Kent (estimate: $100,000-150,000) and a Regency ormolu and patinated bronze mantel clock by Thomas Weeks, early 19th century (estimate: $70,000-100,000).
