How the New Generation is Turning Gambling into Entertainment

Technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace. In the good old days of our youth, the best form of entertainment was to pick up a bat and ball and head towards your nearest street or cricket ground. We would be able to spend countless hours perfecting our cover drives and yorkers. Our reliance on technology, while still more than what our parents had experienced, was still considerably less than the current generation’s.

The current generation is not to blame however for their heavy reliance on technology. Technology is improving with each passing day, month, and year. Information is now available at your fingertips which makes it easier to make informed decisions with regards to different aspects of life. One such facet of life is the world of online gambling. Online gambling has been welcomed by young Indians with open arms. This is also helped by the fact that for the youth, gambling is no longer considered to be taboo. You no longer have to hide about placing bets on your team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Infact we will go as far as to say that cricket betting in India is not considered a pastime or hobby like any other.

In this article we will list down the main reasons that have led to the mass acceptance of this activity. One important thing to note before we continue is that while offshore companies have entered India and are offering their latest casino and sports betting products, gambling within India is still considered to be illegal.

Internet Penetration

The first main factor that has led to its mass adoption has to do with internet penetration. Go back two decades and the internet was mostly confined to one room in the house. To access the world wide web, you were required to perform a ritual of sorts which involved starting up the modem. This was accompanied by horrendous sounds and took a few seconds every time before you were able to log onto the net. However, there was always a danger of disruptions to the connection the moment someone in the house would pick up the dial up telephone. That would disconnect the internet and you would have to repeat the process all over again.

These days, service providers such as Jio have been successful in providing their products to millions of consumers across India. As more and more youngsters access the internet, the act of creating an account on cricket betting sites and placing bets becomes easier. It is not unheard-of for consumers having player accounts with different bookmakers due to the ease of creating one.

Cricket | Onboarding Indian Specific Sports

Bookmakers that are making their way into India are also aware of the likes and dislikes of the Indian audience. While there are other sports that may be bigger than cricket such as football, cricket for us Indians is still the ultimate sport to play, watch and bet on. As a result, savvy sports betting sites such as 10Cric will offer all the popular matches for players to bet on. It goes without saying that every tournament involving India be it national or international is covered.

IPL 2020 was a hugely popular sport that consumers flocked towards when placing their bets. This also leads to another point with regards to increased gambling. An IPL match lasts for about 3 – 4 hours as opposed to a test match that can last for five days. This is not to say that players won’t bet on test matches but a match that lasts for 3-4 hours is a decent enough time for a consumer to spend their time on. Once the match finishes, not only do the players get the results of the bets immediately but it also leaves them time to focus on other things in their life.

Online casinos such as Casino Days have also started to offer more localised games such Teen Patti, Andar Bahar. Some will even go as far as to provide rummy online free!

Removal of Social Stigma

As we briefly touched upon earlier, gambling of any form was considered taboo in the Indian culture. It was a habit that was looked down upon by family and friends. However, the internet has helped to increase globalisation with India adopting more liberal views on a variety of topics including cricket betting.

To summarise, we believe that India will continue to accept all forms of gambling which explains the influx of bookmakers into the country. As always, we would like to remind you to gamble safely and responsibly.
