NEW YORK, NY.- The IFPDA Foundation announced today its 2022 Curatorial Internship Grant and Foundation Grant Recipients, honoring more than a dozen major cultural institutions and organizations with direct funding in support of print-related projects. Proceeds from the IFPDA Print Fair, returning in-person this October, benefit the Foundation, which supports museums and other nonprofits through grants for curatorial internships, exhibitions, research, educational programs, and scholarly publications.

“Our grant program enhances and extends our work to build a collaborative and inclusive community of printmakers, print collectors, and print curators,” said Jenny Gibbs, Executive Director of the IFPDA.

Since 2014, curatorial Internships have been a cornerstone of IFPDA’s grants program and have empowered the next generation of scholars, curators, dealers, and specialists in the field of fine prints through meaningful paid work opportunities for undergraduate students. Past interns have contributed to major exhibitions and expanded available scholarship through cataloging and research, gaining valuable experience to support the pursuit of professional careers in the arts. Host institutions were selected from a pool of national applicants and include the Cincinnati Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, The Blanton Museum of Art, and the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

This year also marks a new partnership with the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective (AUC Art Collective) to launch a professional internship program focused on historically Black colleges and universities. A student at Spelman College received the inaugural internship at BORCH Editions and Gallery in Berlin and Copenhagen.

Foundation grants also support exhibitions, programming, and research, resulting in digital and in-person offerings about prints throughout the country. Spanning the full range of print-making history and possibilities, this year’s funded projects will produce new insights on Italian Renaissance woodcuts, 20th century political prints, contemporary artists working today, artists books, and the diversity of the field.

A full listing of IFPDA Foundation grants follows below. Additional awards will be announced during the IFPDA Print Fair, October 27-30, 2022, including the IFPDA Book Award which highlights published books, articles, or catalogues on fine prints; the Richard Hamilton Acquisition Prize which provides $10,000 for a Museum’s acquisition of one or more prints from any period at the fair; and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation Lecture, which highlights how contemporary artists use printmaking in their artistic practice.
