LOS ANGELES, CA.- On May 24, Bonhams will present Surrounded by Beauty, Carried in Brilliance, a single-owner sale of Native American material that has been assembled with meticulous study and curation over the last five decades by an important Midwest collector. Intricate beadwork is presented throughout the material, but the heart of the collection is almost two dozen remarkable Plains and Plateau cradles, both full-size and models. Highlights include three full-size, museum-quality Cáuigú Ka’igwu (Kiowa) lattice frame examples, four Apsáalooke (Crow) flat board types as well as two Tsitsistas/Suhtai (Cheyenne) lattice cradles.

Totaling 90 lots, the collection also includes beaded dolls, Plateau pictorial bags, moccasins, and pouches as well as a small selection of fine Pacific Northwest Coast carvings.

“After the incredible success of the Roy H. Robinson collection in the fall, it is truly exciting to bring another extraordinary single-owner collection to auction, said Ingmars Lindbergs, Bonhams’ Director of Native American Art in Los Angeles. “The collection features incredible beadwork especially in terms of cradles where there are three Kiowa lattice frame examples, which are considered the pinnacle of cradles.”

Highlights of the sale include:

• Two full-sized Cáuigú Ka’igwu (Kiowa) lattice cradles, each estimated at $50,000 – 80,000, as well as a model, estimated at $5,000 – 7,000.

• A Northwest Coast frontlet, estimated at $50,000 – 70,000.

• Two Tsitsistas/Suhtai (Cheyenne) lattice cradles, each estimated at $20,000 – 40,000.

• Two Apsáalooke (Crow) cradleboards, estimated at $25,000 – 35,000.

• A Lakota (Sioux) child's beaded pictorial vest, estimated at $4,000 – 6,000.

• A Northwest Coast raven rattle, estimated at $4,000 – 6,000.
