SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Turner Auctions + Appraisals is presenting Fine Art, Asian Art, and Jewelry on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Offering over 315 antique, vintage, and contemporary lots, the online auction features an eclectic array of artworks, decorative arts, jewelry, coins, and more from various collectors and estates. Paintings, lithographs, and prints come from diverse artists, including Gustave Baumann, Clayton Sumner Price, Olaf Carl Seltzer, Ira Yeager, Paul Lauritz, Pablo Picasso, George Rowlett, Serge Poliakoff, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Paul Rene Gauguin, Emory Ladanyi, Graciela Rodo Boulanger, John Coughlin, Barbara Johnson, and others. Highlights among the artworks are signed photographs by Ansel Adams. Several sculptures are offered, including by Dino Rosin and Grant Speed.

From Asia are diverse offerings: numerous bronze deities from Thailand, India, Tibet, or Burma, including Buddha, Ganesh, Krishna, Kali, and Hanuman figures; a keris dagger; Persian illuminated leaves; a Tibetan painting; and carved nephrite pendants. From Japan are cloisonne, lacquer, and mixed metal boxes; a hanging scroll painting; a tiger netsuke; and porcelain dish. From China are hanging wall panels and paintings; cocoon-shaped jars; an 18th-century export platter; vase lamps; metal stirrups; a celadon fishbowl, stone chops; and hardwood armchairs.

There is also an extensive selection of decorative arts: a 19th-century carousel horse; a singing bird automaton, music box and clock; a one-winged plaster angel; Swedish Argenta vases; 18th-century torchieres; gilt-bronze and gilt brass candelabra; glass items or collections from Lalique, Swarovski, and Baccarat; decorative eggs; a tea caddy; and more. Religious offerings include Gothic-style reliquaries, an altar cross, and African Orthodox processional cross, a silver and gilt metal chalice, a carved figure of Christ, a Mexican retablo, and Greek icons.

There is also a wide selection of jewelry for women, including necklaces, pendants, bracelets, rings, earrings, pins, and various groupings – many in gold or silver and adorned with precious or semi-precious stones. One jewelry lot features unmounted diamonds; another has unmounted stones, beads, and crystals. For men are wrist- or pocket-watches, fob chains, and cufflinks. Some lots of Old Pawn Southwest jewelry are also available, such as concho belts, necklaces, and belt buckles.

Silver lots, mostly in sterling, include flatware, serving ware, platters and chargers, letter openers, two pheasant figures, and other objects. The auction also includes diverse coins: Morgan, Peace, and Liberty silver dollars; collections of Mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, and Lincoln pennies; and several antique or international coins. Completing the sale are a Czech violin; a selection of art books, many on Picasso; automotive hood ornaments; and pens from Mont Blanc and Sheaffer.

Lot 21: Ansel Adams (1902-1984). Trees and Snow, 1933. Gelatin silver print from Portfolio III, published by Sierra Club, San Francisco, 1960, signed in ink on the mount; numbered 'print No. 4 of set No. 68' in red ink and credit reproduction limitation stamp on mount verso, in very good condition. 11 1/8 x 8 5/8 in. Estimate $3,000-$5,000.

Lot 17: Gustave Baumann (1881-1971). Cochiti Ensemble, 1947. Color woodcut on wove paper, not signed, dated in pencil, titled and numbered 'I6/125', with the artist's hand-in-heart inkstamp, with margins, in good condition, framed. 12 1/4 x 13 1/4 in. (image); 20 3/4 x 21 1/4 in. (frame). Estimate $3,000-$5,000.

Lot 2: Joseph Antoine Bouvard (1840-1920). Venetian Canal with a Gondola. Oil on canvas. Signed (lower left), in good condition, framed. 15 x 19 in. (image); 20 1/2 x 24 1/2 in. (frame). Estimate $3,000-$5,000.

Lot 53: Carousel Horse, Late 19th-/Early 20th-Century. The gray running horse with open mouth and flying tail, a red saddle, and a colorfully painted decorative blanket; approx. 30in high x 48in long x 10in wide. Condition: Wear, spots of paint/surface loss, some cracks in wood, and old repairs. Estimate $2,000-$3,000.

Lot 143: Bronze Buddha with Halo. The Buddha figure seated on a rock form, with five kneeling monks on the base. 19 3/4in x 12in x 12in. Condition: Good; patina. NOTE: Heavy for shipping. Estimate $2,000-$4,000.

Lot 243: Miguel Berrocal Bronze "Micro David-Off" Puzzle Pendant. The sculptural puzzle pendant designed as a male torso, with ring at the center; signed on shoulder, with original fitted box and instruction booklet; length: 2 7/8 x 1/2in., including base. (moderate wear in the form of oxidation and scratching evident). Miguel Berrocal (1933-2006) was a Spanish sculptor known for puzzle sculptures he designed and produced in the 1960-70s. Working primarily in France and Italy, his large scale installations spanned the globe. Estimate $300-$500.

Lot 86: Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000). Irinaland over the Balkans, pl. 7, from Look at it on a Rainy Day, 1971-72. Color screenprint with metallic embossing on wove paper, unsigned and stamp numbered 0263/3000 and 0237/3000 (only 300 prints from the edition were signed), published/printed by Ars Viva, Zurich/Dietz Offizin, Lengmoos, Bavaria, with margins, in good condition, framed. 16 x 23 in. (image); 23 x 33 in. (frame). Estimate $1,500-$2,000.

Lot 99: Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962). To the Tiger in the Zoo, Madeline just said 'Pooh, Pooh'. Color lithograph on wove paper, signed in pencil, numbered 276/300, with full margins, in good condition aside from a few creases in the image and in the margins, not framed. 24 x 19 1/2 in. (image); 34 x 26 in. (sheet). Estimate $1,000-$1,500.

Lot 163: Chinese Cocoon-Shaped Jar, Han Dynasty. The earthenware vessel on a foot, with a flared spout centering the top, the body painted post-firing with scrolling designs in pale pink, cream, and brown on a black ground. Height approx. 10 1/2in, circumference 35in. Condition: Good; wear to paint. Estimate $1,000-$1,500.

Lot 57: Pair of Gilt-Bronze Angel Candelabra. The candelabras formed of angels standing on ball-topped plinths, each with five candleholders. 28in x 12in x 12in. Estimate $800-$1,200.

Lot 254: Opal, Pink Sapphire, Diamond, Blackened Silver Pendant. Centering an oval opal weighing approximately 28.75 carats, accented by round pink sapphires and numerous single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 3.25 carats; with chain; pendant length: 3 3/4in; chain length: 30in. Estimate $700-$1,500.

Lot 170: Red Ground Cloisonné Box. An ornately decorated square/scalloped shape red ground cloisonné box with inserted carved openwork jade medallions; the ornate cloisonné design continues to the interior of the box and lid; the base is blue enamel. 12in x 12in x 2 1/4in. Condition: Good; corner chip to enamel on base. Estimate $1,000-$1,500.

Lot 297: Group of Four Navajo Concho Belts. Consisting of one leather belt and a buckle with a single turquoise stone, measures 44in length. Second leather belt with one multi-stone turquoise buckle, measures 53in length. Third leather belt with 14 conchos alternating shapes with multi-stone turquoise conchos, measures 42in length. Fourth leather belt with 9 conchos with stamping and single turquoise bead, and a buckle with two stones, one is cracked and missing part of one of the two stones, measures 40in length. Estimate $100-$200.
