SANTA FE; NM.- The Museum of Fine Arts in New Mexico presents the exhibit Mexican Modern: Masters of the 20th Century through September 3, 2006. The exhibit presents an inspiring range of Mexican paintings between the years 1920 and 1955 - the period after the Revolution when Mexican painters were encouraged to freely express their cultural identity. Along with the famous three, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco, the exhibit includes exciting works by Jesus Galvan, Olga Costa and Guillermo Meza and Manuel Álvarez Bravo to name a few of the twenty-six artists represented by over sixty works in the exhibit. The energy of the works is palpable.

Santa Fe is the only venue for this exciting collaboration between the Museo de Arte Moderno, Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes de Mexico (CONACULTA-INBA) and the Museum of Fine Arts, New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Marsha Bol, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, said, “It is an honor to be the only museum in the United States to exhibit this prestigious collection of works by the giants of Mexican Modernism. This is an opportunity for New Mexicans not to have to leave their state to see world class art.”

A catalog published by the Museum of New Mexico Press will accompany the exhibit, featuring essays by Dr. Richard Craven of the University of New Mexico and Professor Luis-Martín Lozano, Director, Museo de Arte Moderno de México.
