Winter wedding by Valeri S. Semenov from 1970, an oil on canvas (127 x 197cm).
|
AMSTERDAM.- The sale at Sothebys Amsterdam on Wednesday 6 September 2006 offers attractive paintings, watercolors and drawings from all periods for accessible prices. Of interest is a collection of colorful works by Russian artists from the 1960s and 1970s, comprising landscapes, still-lifes and rural scenes. Fine examples are the Winter wedding by Valeri S. Semenov from 1970, an oil on canvas (127 by 197cm, 4,500-5,500) and Lenin at the Congress, an oil on canvas from 1968 by A. Yanin (120 by160 cm, 3,200-3,600).
A collection of circa 30 works (paintings and works on paper) by the Dutch artist Eliazer (Elie) Neuburger (Amsterdam 1891-1972, 1891-1972), from the Collection of the MuseumgoudA in Gouda, Netherlands, will generate much interest. Apart from paintings, the Amsterdam born artist Elie Neuburger had a prolific production in works on paper (watercolors, charcoals, pastel and sepia drawings). He painted portraits, town views, landscapes, nudes and still-lifes. For the Gemeente Archief (Municipal Archives) of the city of Amsterdam he made many topographic drawings of the Dutch capital. Works by Neuburger can be found in the collections of amongst others, the Jewish Historic Museum Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Historic Museum. After Neuburgers death in 1972 and the MuseumgoudA received his works as a gift. After ample consideration, the MuseumgoudA has decided to de-access this collection, mainly because Neuburgers subjects have little or nothing to do with the city of Gouda. Neuburgers paintings and works on paper have been stored in the museum depot for many years now. Considering their place should be in other collections.
Works from other collections include Circus Friends by the 19th century Belgian artist Vincent de Vos (1829-1875) (1,200-1,800) and a Still life with vegetables and a teapot by Jan Wiegers (1893-1959) (3,000-5,000). On view: 2 to 4 September 2006, daily from 10am to 5pm. Sale: 6 September at 10.30am and 2pm.
