How much CBN oil should I take at Night?

Cannabinol, or CBN, is one of the most sought-after cannabinoids for improving sleep quality. Its slightly sedative nature gives it an edge over other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, or CBC for sleep issues. CBN oil is now one of the most popular cannabinoid-based products, and millions of Americans rely on it to get some much-needed rest after a long and hectic day.

Plus, it’s a much better, safer, and cleaner alternative to traditional prescription-based sleep medicines. Why? Because there’s no risk of addiction or overdosing with CBN oil. Other than sleep, CBN oil also helps in better management of pain, anxiety, stress, appetite, eye health, and other such overall health issues.

It’s a minor cannabinoid and is usually found in mature and dried-up hemp plants. So even though it’s known as the best cannabinoid for sleep, for beginners, it can be quite tricky to determine the appropriate dosage to get the best results. In this article, we will cover how much CBN oil for sleep you should take at night for the best rejuvenating, deep, and recovering sleep.

What is CBN oil?
CBN oil is a natural sleep aid product that is made by extracting cannabinol from mature cannabis plants and mixing it with a carrier oil. CBN is one of the very first discovered cannabinoids, and its discovery kick-started the study of all other major cannabinoids that we know of today.

It was first discovered in 1896 but remains a much lesser-known and used cannabinoid as compared to CBD and THC. It forms when THC breaks down through the oxidation process. I.e., structural breakdown, which occurs when THC comes in contact with air, light, moisture, and oxygen for a prolonged time.

Now, unlike THC, CBN is not intoxicating. Still, it does have mildly psychoactive effects, which makes it a better sleep-inducing cannabinoid. Some say that it’s a milder or much weaker form of THC, so it carries all the soothing effects but without the risk of making someone high.

Does CBN help with sleep?
Yes, CBN does help with sleep, but there’s not much concrete research on it yet. The idea comes from anecdotal reports from people who have used it firsthand and saw improvement in their sleep quality. Plus, the fact that it’s like a kind of cannabinoid THC, which is known for its sedating effects, further makes CBN a popular choice.

There are plenty of small studies on this topic as well with mixed results. As per a 1976 study, CBN showed better sedating effects but only when taken with THC. A recent animal study done on rats noted that CBN does result in better sleep, but then some studies couldn’t say it conclusively.

Another recent study found that consumption of CBN may lead to much better and deeper sleep. Researchers also compared it with popular sedative and anti-anxiety medicines and found CBN more effective than them. So yeah, research data is a bit limited, and we need more large-scale studies for better understanding.

That does not mean that you shouldn’t try CBN at all. Research will happen at its own pace, but so many people can tell you from their experience that CBN has done wonders for their sleep quality.

From throbbing pain at night to anxious thoughts that might keep you up, CBN is supposedly the best aid to deal with such issues based on anecdotal reports from consumers globally.

How much CBN oil should I take at night?
Well, it all boils down to your experience with cannabinoids and body chemistry. These products are not regulated by the FDA, so there’s no proper dosage chart that you can follow. For most people, the dosage chart provided by the brand works best, as long as the brand is trusted and well-tested.

For example, Colorado Botanicals, a premium cannabinoid brand, suggests its customers take 1-2 servings of their CBN oil either at night in one go or twice at different intervals for forest week.

You can stick with this dosage if it is effective or optimal for you. If it’s not strong enough and you are not happy with the results, then you can increase your daily consumption amount by 0.25 to 1 ml at intervals of every three to four days till you hit your sweet spot.

So in layman's terms, this will roughly translate to 5-20 mg CBN every day for a healthy individual. Or it can be described as 1 mg CBN for every 10-15 pounds of body weight. The number is low because CBN oil usually comes bottled with other major cannabinoids, like CBD and CBDV.

The ratio is divided in a way to give the maximum amount of CBD and then a minor amount of CBN. But again, there’s no hard and fast rule with this; a dosage that might work for you may not work for your friend. So keep experimenting; try different products, different amounts, different times, and intervals till you find the perfect dosage.

Is CBN oil safe?
Yes, CBN oil is completely safe. Even at high doses, it doesn’t cause any severe side effects. However, taking too much may make you a bit more drowsy and fatigued than usual.

To avoid dehydration and nausea, it’s best to take CBN oil after dinner. As a beginner, you may feel a slight headache, dizziness, or fatigue, but these symptoms usually go away once your body gets used to the product.

The Final Thoughts
To sum it up, you should take anywhere between 5 to 20mg of CBN every night for best results. The number can vastly vary based on factors like your body chemistry, weight, tolerance, medical history, mental state, energy levels, and cannabinoid sensitivity.

Some studies found that even a dosage as low as 4 mg per day works very effectively for many people who suffer from insomnia, disturbed sleep cycles, and other such sleep issues.

It’s not a magic pill though, and to improve CBN oil’s effectiveness you should try a clean diet, regular sleep and wake-up time, and some meditation or yoga practices. Give your body time to adjust to CBN oil, and make sure to buy it only from reputed and well-tested brands like Colorado Botanicals.
