DES MOINES, IOWA.- The Des Moines Art Center presents the exhibit Endi Posokovic: Large Color Woodcuts through February 4, 2007. Since his move to the United States in 1990, Endi Poskovic has become well-known for his masterful, visually arresting color woodcuts and his enigmatic imagery. He combines a harrowing vision of the world with elegantly lettered subtitles that comment but don’t clarify. Poskovic is part of the Bosnian cultural diaspora, one of the many artists who left Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, during the civil war in the early 1990s and who are now scattered across the world. Now based in Los Angeles, he has received many awards, residencies, and fellowships and has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. This exhibition, the artist’s first solo exhibition in Iowa, presents his recent large color woodcuts, focusing on his images of flight and travel across blasted landscapes. Amy N. Worthen, curator of prints, organized the exhibition.
