MUNICH.- Since its opening on June 27, 2024, over 100.000 people have already visited the exhibition “Andy Warhol & Keith Haring. Party of Life.” Interest among the public is huge.

Art Minister Markus Blume enthused: “Pop, party, crowd puller! The exhibition ‘Andy Warhol & Keith Haring. Party of Life’ is drawing crowds to Museum Brandhorst and shows impressively: art lives, art connects, art inspires! I am delighted that over 100,000 people have already visited the exhibition since it opened four months ago. I’m currently in New York and can feel the creative energy of this vibrant art metropolis here in the center of the Pop Art movement. Museum Brandhorst brings this unique atmosphere to Munich—a piece of New York in the middle of Bavaria. This is what modern exhibition concepts at the cutting edge look like. If you haven’t been to Museum Brandhorst yet, make sure you go!”

Director Achim Hochdörfer is thrilled: “We are overwhelmed by the many people who flock to our museum every day. What is more wonderful than a busy museum? The large amount of interest shows how relevant the works of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring still are today and how many thematic connections they offer to the questions and discourses of our present day. The spirit of the 1980s in New York is palpable, not only for those who lived through the period themselves, but also for younger people. The themes of the exhibition include music, lifestyle, fashion, parties, sexuality and politics. With their artistic practice, Warhol and Haring laid the foundations for phenomena that are taken for granted in our culture today: from early forms of reposting and remixing, in which they integrated elements and motifs from other artists into their own aesthetic, to the exaggeration of celebrity culture and the connection between underground and mainstream.”

With “Andy Warhol & Keith Haring. Party of Life,” Museum Brandhorst presents the world’s first comprehensive institutional exhibition dedicated to both artists. The title of the show is borrowed from the motto of Keith Haring’s birthday celebrations: “Party of Life” tells of the cosmos of the 1980s, of MTV, discos, voguing, hip-hop, new wave and graffiti. The exhibition traces Warhol and Haring’s friendship as artists in this environment. It reveals parallels in their artistic self-image, their openness to cooperation and collaborative projects and their inclusive attitude: art and its messages should reach as many people as possible.

In addition to famous key works, the exhibition also focuses on film and photo recordings, archive material as well as posters, records and everyday objects. The show at Museum Brandhorst, which houses the largest Warhol collection in Europe with over 120 works and a growing collection of Haring works, thus opens up new perspectives on both artists.

The exhibition “Andy Warhol & Keith Haring. Party of Life” can be seen at Museum Brandhorst until January 26, 2025.
