PARIS.- With boldness and sensitivity, Greg Léon Guillemin offers us a journey into the heart of his vision of femininity. At the crossroads of pop art and contemporary art, diverting the world of comics and superheroes, which he stages in our daily lives, his style is immediately recognizable. The vibrant colors and dynamic compositions convey the energy that drives his subjects, while the screen prints, pronounced outlines, and off-center framing, true signatures of the artist, evoke snapshots of life frozen on the canvas and presented in series.
Beyond the representation of the female figure, the "Unfiltered" exhibition is intended as an invitation to reflection, a space for dialogue and questioning. By showing women in what he perceives as their authenticity, Greg Léon Guillemin encourages us to question prejudices, to reconsider the social and cultural filters through which we see ourselves and the way we understand otherness.
Greg Léon Guillemin, a French contemporary pop artist born in Eaubonne in 1967, has established himself on the artistic scene thanks to his bold style, a provocative and humorous reinterpretation of icons of popular culture.
After several years of exploring superhero figures, he created his emblematic series "Secret Life of Heroes" in 2013. By staging iconic characters in unexpected situations, he disrupts established representations and invites a new look at these contemporary mythologies.
Playing with the codes of comics, advertising, and the entertainment world, Greg Léon Guillemin creates works that are both accessible and complex, where humor and provocation are never far away. His paintings, which often have several levels of interpretation, trigger reflection on our relationship with images and the myths of our time. Rooted in a family history linked to the visual arts his great-great-grandfather, a master glassmaker, notably collaborated with Viollet-le-Duc , his work carries the legacy of traditional techniques that he reinvents in the light of contemporary popular culture.
The press and brands regularly call on him for illustrations, covers, or collaborations. His graphic strength has, in just a few years, emancipated itself from the digital realm and integrated galleries, magazines, and festivals worldwide.
The exhibition is on view at Galerie Wallworks through 24 January 2025.
