ROME.- It is with great enthusiasm that I embrace the privilege of presiding over an institution of such significance in the Italian and international cultural landscape, stated Emanuela Bruni. I wish to express my deepest gratitude to Minister Alessandro Giuli for his trust. I will strive to repay it with dedication, enhancing MAXXI's role as a centre for cultural and creative innovation and further consolidating its visibility and influence both in Italy and abroad. In synergy with the Museums team, we will work to promote research, inclusivity, and experimentation. Those are values that have always distinguished our museum.
Maria Emanuela Bruni has been officially appointed as the new President of the MAXXI Foundation by Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli on Friday, 28 March.
Her appointment follows the invaluable and continuous support she provided during the interim period that began last September, enabling MAXXIs staff to carry on with the Museums work, activities, and projects without interruption.
Brunis appointment marks a new phase of growth and innovation for the National Museum of 21st Century Arts as it enters 2025 with the goal of further enriching its cultural programme and reinforcing its role as a key reference point for the public, contemporary and future generations of artists, and art, architecture, design, and culture enthusiasts worldwide.
A distinguished art historian and journalist, Maria Emanuela Bruni has an extensive and proven track record of service to institutions. In 2008, she became the first woman to lead the Ceremonial Office at Palazzo Chigi.
Under her leadership, MAXXIs autumn 2024 season was launched, featuring the inauguration of eight highly successful exhibitions. These included Architettura instabile, a project curated by studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro; the fourth edition of the MAXXI BVLGARI PRIZE, culminating in the victory of Monia Ben Hamouda; and Memorabile. Ipermoda, curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, which marked the grand return of fashion to the Museums spaces. Other highlights included a monographic exhibition dedicated to contemporary photography master Guido Guidi and The Large Glass project, a reinstallation of the Museums Collection.
Additionally, two major exhibitions were realised in collaboration with Autostrade per lItalia and Ferrero: Italia in movimento. Autostrade e futuro, celebrating the centenary of Italys first motorway, built in 1924, and joyn! Un viaggio nel mondo Nutella® per i suoi 60 anni.
