DUBLIN.- Established in 2020, the Provosts Fellowship in Curating offers recent graduates of Trinity College Dublin the opportunity to work within The Douglas Hyde over a period of twelve months. Through hands-on work and mentorship, the Fellow is given insight into the daily workings of the organisation and its programme, while contributing to discourses within the Gallery, Trinity College and further afield. The Fellowship, which is generously supported by the Office of the Provost, fosters new generations of arts professionals by giving practical experience of working within one of Irelands leading contemporary art spaces.
Provost Linda Doyle notes, "I extend my congratulations to Aoife McCloughlin on receiving the Provosts Fellowship in Curating at The Douglas Hyde. I really look forward to seeing what she will do with this role! The Douglas Hyde is a really vibrant and inspiring space that encourages bold exploration and innovation in contemporary art. Aoifes creativity and artistic talent make her a perfect fit for this environment, and I know she will make a fantastic contribution.
Aoife McCloughlin graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2025, completing her MPhil in the History of Art and Architecture. On her appointment, Aoife says, I am honoured to have been awarded this incredible opportunity at this early stage of my career; affording me the time to develop and professionalise my curatorial interests. It is a privilege to work with the talented team; who have been very supportive since I have started the role. As the fourth Provosts Fellow in Curating, I am looking forward to seeing what lies ahead as each of the previous fellows have gone onto pursue exciting careers in the arts sector. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Director Georgina Jackson and Provost Linda Doyle for continuing to support this significant mentorship.
Director Georgina Jackson states, "We are delighted to welcome Aoife to the team at an exciting time as we work towards Ireland at Venice in 2026 and look forward to working with her to realise her event in October 2025. These opportunities are crucial to foster the next generation of curators. She continues, Id like to thank Provost Linda Doyle for her ongoing support of The Douglas Hyde and championing future generations of curators.
Aoife McCloughlin graduated from National College of Art and Design with a BA Joint Honours in Fine Art Sculpture and Critical Cultures in 2022. She received her MPhil in the History of Art and Architecture at Trinity College Dublin, specialising in Irish art, completing her dissertation entitled "The Lifecycle of Public Art: The Anna Livia and Molly Malone sculptures from Inception to Public Reception, 1988 present." Aoife presented a paper on this research at the 2024 Irish Association of Art Historians Annual Symposium. She worked as an Exhibition Mediator in the Irish Pavilion for Niamh OMalleys Gather, at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), and in 2023 Aoife was an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice. She has facilitated education events for Sculpture Dublins Creative Engagement Programme, The Ark Childrens Cultural Centre, Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre, and The Chester Beatty Library, Dublin.
