MEMPHIS, TN.- The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is accepting submissions for the 2007 Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards. This program gives middle and high school students from the Mid-South region a forum for presenting their artwork in a juried competition. Presented by the Brooks Museum League, the contest recognizes outstanding talent with cash prizes and college scholarships.

Students in the region can submit work through their art teachers by registering online at www.artandwriting.org. The website prompts visitors on how to register and submit their work. Students and teachers MUST register at this website before submitting any artwork to the Brooks Museum. Hand delivery of work will be accepted on Friday, January 12 from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, January 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, January 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. Mailed entries must be received by Monday, January 15.

Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards jurors select "gold" and "silver" key winners based on originality, skill, technique, and _expression. Many of the award-winning students receive cash prizes and scholarships. All gold and silver key winners are exhibited at the Brooks Museum from January 27-February 11, 2007 and are invited to attend a special awards ceremony at the Memphis College of Art and a reception following at the Brooks on February 3, 2007. Gold key artwork is then sent in digital format to New York for national judging. The national award winners are celebrated each year with a series of events, including an exhibition of winning artwork in New York City and a national awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall as well as an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C.

All portfolios will be reviewed for regional scholarships and nominations for the national scholarship competition. Regional scholarships are offered through the Memphis College of Art, the University of Memphis, Christian Brothers University, the University of Mississippi, and Arkansas State University.
