SAO PAULO.- Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel announced the representation of Sophia Loeb, in collaboration with Pippy Houldsworth Gallery. Born in São Paulo and based between her hometown and London, Loeb creates paintings that immerse viewers in vibrant, tactile visual fields. Her work emphasizes sensorial experience, using striking contrasts and dynamic color to create depth, rhythm, and impact. The artist’s process is dynamic and intuitive: canvases are rotated, tilted, and approached from multiple angles, while layers of liquid and powdered pigments, along with oil sticks, are applied, scraped, and reworked in constant dialogue with the surface.Panta Rei sobre a Estrata, Sophia Loeb’s solo show, is currently on view at Carpintaria, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel’s venue in Rio de Janeiro, through August 2, 2025.

Sophia Loeb creates paintings that immerse viewers in vibrant, tactile visual fields. Her work emphasizes sensorial experience, using striking contrasts and dynamic color to create depth, rhythm, and impact. The artist’s process is dynamic and intuitive: canvases are rotated, tilted, and approached from multiple angles, while layers of liquid and powdered pigments, along with oil sticks, are applied, scraped, and reworked in constant dialogue with the surface. Guided by matter itself, each color is applied with gestural motions, implying the artist’s interest in bodily involvement. This awareness stems from her early work as a sculptor, a discipline from which she draws physicality and touch, leading to dense, voluminous compositions in which multiple layers are held in tension.

Loeb has held two solo exhibitions: Panta Rei sobre a Estrata, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel | Carpintaria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2025); and Todos os Seres são de Todos os Seres (All Beings are of All Beings), Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, United Kingdom (2023).

Notable group exhibitions in which she has participated include: ABERTO 04, Paris, France (2025); At the Limits of Form, Museu Inimá de Paula, Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2025); Daffodils Baptized in Butter, The Arts Club, London, United Kingdom (2024); Alchemists, Pond Society, Shanghai, China (2024); ABERTO 03, São Paulo, Brazil (2024); Abstraction (re)creation – 20 under 40, Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2024); Between Us, Olivia Foundation, Mexico City, Mexico (2024); Les danses nocturnes, Spread Museum, Entrevaux, France (2023); and So Show, Art Lab, São Paulo, Brazil (2022), among others.

The artist’s work is included in public collections, such as the ICA–Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, United States; Green Family Art Foundation, Dallas, United States; Museu Inimá de Paula, Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Olivia Foundation, Mexico City, Mexico; Rachofsky Collection, Dallas, United States; and The Shah Garg Foundation, New York, United States.
