The City of Calgary Public Art Program - Open Call to Artist

CALGARY.- The City of Calgary Public Art Program, Arts & Culture division, is seeking Expressions of Interest (i.e. Request for Qualifications) from experienced artists with a demonstrated ability to design and produce integrated public art within environmental and/or ecological projects relating to water. Relevant experience working on interdisciplinary design teams and riparian restoration projects, as well as related construction and project management skills will be considered an asset.

Open to local, national and international artists, the goal of this public art project is to use public art to support the vision, mission and objectives of the Harvie Passage reconstruction project, celebrate the Bow River's natural abundance within the heart of the city, and provide a greater understanding of watershed issues, the significant history of the area, its visual beauty and recreational opportunities.

The selected artist will be engaged to work as a member of the design team and lead the development of design for agreed upon public art elements within the site, in conjunction with the current design work on the Harvie Passage capital project. The artist will also be required to mentor a local artist, and participate in the larger capital project community engagement process.

Submissions must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007.

For more information and to submit, interested artists must access and download Expression of Interest document #07-016 Harvie Passage Public Art Project from the Alberta Purchasing Connection (www.purchasingconnection.ca).
