Annual Exhibition Opens at Ursinus College

COLLEGEVILLE, PA.- Ursinus College will open its Annual Student Exhibition 2007 Wednesday, April 25 with an opening reception from 3 to 5 p.m. The Annual Student Exhibition 2007 is a showcase for works by studio art majors in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photography. It will run through May 13 in both the Main and Upper galleries of the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art, and also in Ritter Art Studio on the campus. The April 25 hours for the Ritter Art Studio Gallery are from 3 to 5 p.m.

The opening ceremony will include a tribute to Professor Ted Xaras, who is retiring at the end of the semester. Xaras came to Ursinus in 1973, and has been chair of the department since his arrival. He has received the H. Lloyd Jones Distinguished Teaching Award and the Laughlin Professional Achievement Award.

More than 150 works will be on display. During the opening reception students are recognized for excellence in a medium and awarded book prizes, cash purchase awards funded by Winnifred Cutler 1973, juried cash prizes, and Director’s and Popular Choice recognition. Studio art majors will be featured in the Main and Upper Galleries of the Berman Museum of Art; work by students participating in a studio art course will be on display in Ritter Art Studio. Thirteen Studio Art majors are participating in the Berman installation.

Additionally, the exhibition, “A Sense of Place: Photography by Bob Reichley,” is being shown in the lobby of The Kaleidoscope performing arts center, at the college’s Ninth Avenue entrance until June 15. The Kaleidoscope building is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus is regularly open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; noon to 4:30 p.m. , Saturday and Sunday; closed Mondays and college holidays. The museum is closed from April 7 through April 25. The museum is accessible to the physically disabled. Admission is free. For group tour information, call 610.409.3500.
