NEW YORK.-Fifty-four of the world’s leading dealers in 20th and 21st century art and design come together once again this autumn for the annual Haughton International Art + Design Fair in New York. The fair takes place, as usual, at the venerable Park Avenue Armory, Park Avenue at 67th Street, New York, running from October 5th through October 10th, 2007.

The youngest of the four annual Haughton fairs in New York, The International Art + Design Fair celebrates the strength of the market for modernist works of art, with participating exhibitors including many of the finest names in the field and a second-to-none range of art works.

With the proliferation of so many international fairs, both in New York and around the globe, The International Art + Design Fair is uniquely positioned at the epicentre of the most influential and dynamic design happening today. Since founded in 1999, the fair has become one of the world’s premier showcases for art and design from 1900 to the present day, with its prime location on New York’s Upper East Side, enabling it to establish itself, in a relatively short time, as “the” platform in New York City for design dealers. As such it has also become a compelling attraction for the growing band of 20th century and contemporary collectors worldwide.

Alll exhibits are for sale and all have been strictly vetted for authenticity and quality by a committee of independent specialists in their respective fields.

Exhibiting dealers from the United States, Europe, Scandinavia and Australia consistently present an inspiring and exciting selection of works of art that includes: furniture, paintings, sculpture, photography, jewelry, textiles, glass, pottery and porcelain, metalwork, silver, books, watches, ethnographica and Asian art.

Bard Graduate Center at the International Art + Design Fair:

Gala Preview and Loan Exhibition

Bard Graduate Center for Studies in The Decorative Arts, Design and Culture is the recipient of the proceeds of The Opening Night Gala Preview Party on the evening of Thursday, October 4th -- a vibrant and highly successful fundraiser for the BGC’s scholarship program.

Every year, in conjunction with the Opening Night Preview, the BGC mounts a spectacular Loan Exhibition and Lecture Program at the fair, usually devoted to the work of one great design “legend.” This year’s exhibition celebrates the work of designer Alvin Lustig (1915-1955) the brilliant mid-century California modernist designer whose body of work included graphic and book design, architecture, industrial and interior design, and furniture design.

In addition, there will be a panel discussion titled Design as Synthesis: Alvin Lustig’s Legacy on Tuesday, October 9th from 5.30pm-7.30pm. Design historian Steven Heller, BGC professor Pat Kirham, and exhibition curators Doug Clouse and Rita Jules will share their insights about the legacy of this visionary designer. Tickets are available from the BGC Programs Department on: (212) 501-3011 or email: programs@bgc.bard.edu

General fair hours: 11am-7.30pm; daily except Sunday, 11am-6pm.
