NEW YORK/LONDON.- Christie’s International, the world’s leading art business, announced today the appointment of Nick Deeming as Group General Counsel. In this role, Mr. Deeming will be responsible for managing the Group’s legal and compliance functions worldwide and serve as a member of the Group Management Board providing key strategic input, as well as developing new business opportunities. Mr. Deeming will be based in London and report to CEO Edward Dolman.

In his more than twenty year career in legal affairs and compliance he has added both commercial and strategic value to the companies in which he has worked. His significant experience in complex transactions, contracts and M&A activities with large multinationals and in emerging markets will serve Christie’s well as we execute on our growth strategy.”

In June the respected trade publication LegalWeek commented: "Deeming is one of the UK’s best-known in-house lawyers." He was also featured in The Lawyer's 'Hot 100' 2007, an annual survey of top lawyers across the profession in the UK who "are making things happen in the legal world."

Mr. Deeming lectured and tutored on solicitors’ professional qualifying examinations at Guildhall University, London and has since worked within the oil and gas, financial services, IT and medical insurance sectors. He joined the BOC Group as Group Legal Director and Company Secretary in 2001 and when BOC was acquired by Linde AG in 2006, he was appointed Group Legal Director of the enlarged group and made a member of Linde AG Executive Management Committee. He also led the integration of group-wide Legal Services team of more than 100 members.

From 1999 to 2001 Mr. Deeming was Chief Legal Counsel and Company Secretary for Sema Group Plc, the Anglo-French IT services firm. Previously he was Group Legal Director and Company Secretary for insurer PPP Healthcare Group Plc since 1990. From 1986 to 1990 he was Group Legal Adviser and Company Secretary for the financial services group Target Group Plc. He was also a Legal Advisor to Burmah Oil Exploration Ltd from 1983 to 1986 and a lecturer at Guildhall University from 1981 to 1983.

Mr. Deeming earned an Executive M.B.A degree from Cranford University and a Law Degree from Guildhall University.
