COLOGNE, GERMANY.- This autumn, ART.FAIR 21 is a fixed date on the Rhinelands art world agenda. In 2007, many renowned galleries will be participating in this art fair which is famous for being a thrilling cultural spectacle. From the 1st to the 4th of November, ART.FAIR 21 will offer a fresh and dynamic insight into current artistic trends in an exciting, comprehensive and top-rate show.
During the last five years, this art fairs ability to improve and to adapt flexibly to an increasingly growing audience has made it a constant on the art market. This year, the fair which is devoted to contemporary art is setting high standards. The mixture of young, unknown galleries and established, acclaimed exhibitors has been rearranged and reflects raised expectations. Collectors, curators, art lovers and other visitors can look forward to new impulses from the contemporary young art scene. At ART.FAIR 21, prize-winners and Biennale artists do more than inspire the desire to buy and discover. Young contemporary art is up and coming. This can be seen in the first overview of the exhibitions programme.
ART.FAIR 21 Preview - Annette Streyls sculptures present a surprising display. Galerie Levy (Hamburg) will be showing knitted and stone plastic art by the young artist (*1968) from Hamburg. Observers of these knitted edifices are both perplexed and amused. The artist has arranged some of these pieces of knitting almost casually on a line as if they were washing. Other pieces have been fitted onto framework thus taking on plastic forms. Well-known buildings, such as the Reichstag, the Palace of the Republic or IKEA were models for her knitted creations. Annette Streyls works have already thrilled artistic audiences at international exhibitions all over Europe and the USA.
The Bereznitsky Gallery (Berlin) will be showing the project media komfort at their stand. The room-based installation consisting of painting, animation and video sculpture by the Ukrainian artists Alexander Gnilitsky and Lesia Zeiats was exhibited at this years Biennale in Venice in the Ukrainian Pavilion. At ART.FAIR 21, these artists who cooperate under the name Institution of Unstable Thoughts will continue this project with a new installation. The observer enters into this spatial artwork as into an environment without a direct storyline. In this case, the sum total of objects does not make up a whole. Unlike the story in a movie, it is not possible to pick up the same thread twice. When experiencing this room, all the senses are stimulated.
