Discovery Center of Idaho to Open Phenomenal Forces

BOISE, ID.- On December 5th, the Discovery Center of Idaho will open their newest exhibition, Phenomenal Forces. As with DCI past exhibitions, Mapping and MAKE IT!, this entire exhibition was created in-house by the talented exhibits team. Also, as with Mapping and MAKE IT!, Phenomenal Forces will have exhibits that appeal to all ages and promote handson interaction. Many of the exhibits will explore the natural, invisible forces that are all around us which can create visual effects that appear to defy logic. These “illusions” are guaranteed to keep visitors guessing and involved. In a time where the news is filled with stories on natural changes that are taking place in our environment, Phenomenal Forces will help to demystify what is behind many of those changes.

The goal of Phenomenal Forces is to help the visitor develop a better understanding of the phenomena of magnetism, motion, electricity, energy, light, force and matter. Exploring the natural phenomenon of the fundamental forces of physics, Phenomenal Forces will bring to life the theories and laws of physics being studied from textbooks by students in school. One of the exhibit pieces will be an “Uphill Roller” which will make a ball appear to roll uphill…Can you defy gravity? A “Water Freezer” exhibit will guide visitors through a sequence of steps that will cause water to boil and subsequently they will witness a sheet of ice being formed; this nonintuitive event will bring Thermodynamics to life. Large electrical bolts, (you will even be able to give yourself a shock), geyser eruptions, the transformation of motion to heat…there will be approximately twenty hands-on exhibit pieces showcased through Phenomenal Forces. The Phenomenal Forces exhibition will run through June 7, 2009.
