It Happened in your Neighbourhood Contemporary Art in Quebec

QUEBEC CITY.- The Musee National des Beaux-Arts du Quebec opnes the exhibition It Happened in your Neighbourhood Contemporary Art in Quebec on view through April 12, 2009. The second in a series after Québec, A City and its Artists, the multidisciplinary exhibition It Happened in your Neighbourhood. Contemporary Art in Quebec will pay tribute to a range of contemporary creators. Like the many artists represented in the historical component, these visual arts creators have also developed close ties with Québec City, because they were born here, because they studied here or because they have marked the Capital’s artistic scene in recent decades. Spotlighted are later works by fifty artists known for the quality of their work, including Jocelyne Alloucherie, Claudie Gagnon, Paul Lacroix, Diane Landry, Jocelyn Robert and the BGL group.

Organized around themes – The Good Life, From Bric-a-Brac to Baroque, Bodies’ Resonances, The State of the Premises (Sound Salon) and Postures –, the exhibition will highlight the vitality of the artistic milieu, the quality and relevance of its production vis-à-vis the choices and challenges dominating the national and international scenes, and the fundamental role its actors play in terms of current Québec culture. To do so, the showing features pieces from the MNBAQ’s current art collection, which has grown considerably in recent years, and outside loans.
