Delaware Art Museum Presents The Possibilities of Pause: Delaware Women's Conference 2009 Juried Exhibition

WILMINGTON, DE.- The Delaware Art Museum presents The Possibilities of Pause: Delaware Women’s Conference 2009 Juried Exhibition, featuring over 40 paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptural pieces by women in Delaware and the surrounding region, on view March 7, 2009 – April 19, 2009. Each year, the Delaware Women’s Conference offers a juried fine art show. This year’s Juror/Guest Curator is Carina Evangelista, who is the Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. The Delaware Art Museum is displaying The Possibilities of Pause as part of its Outlooks Exhibition Series.

The Possibilities of Pause showcases the variety of means that women in Delaware and nearby states use in harnessing their energies, consolidating their thoughts, distilling their feelings, or unleashing their imagination to give form to their creative musings. The exhibition includes artists who are academically trained and others who are self-taught. Some works testify to the legacies of landscape painting (particularly that of the psychologically inflected work of the late Andrew Wyeth) and of American illustration distinctly established by the Brandywine tradition.

“Altogether, the art in The Possibilities of Pause attests to women who honor their friendships, convictions, and reflections, gathering their creative thoughts and strengths to incubate ideas,” observed Evangelista.

Exhibition Preview: Friday, March 6, 2009 | 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. | Free
The Delaware Art Museum will offer evening hours and free admission from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, as part of Wilmington ’s Art on the Town program. The Possibilities of Pause will be on view during this time, a day earlier than its official opening.
