HIGHLIGHT presents Jesse Schlesinger, August artist in residence.
Jesse Schlesinger was born in 1979 in Kentucky. He is a visual and social practice artist working and residing in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- For the duration of the residency at HIGHLIGHT, Jesse Schlesinger will engage with the gallery setting using a specific collection of materials: wood timbers, plaster, and paper. Improvising with the specific media and hand tools, Schlesinger will explore the parameters of the space and the relationships between the materials. The gallery as working site will engage themes of scale, time, material qualities and industry, and provoke considerations of spatial relationships between primary building materials and the potential of a ‘fixed’ architectural context. Work will include drawings, sculptures, models, and a large scale installation.

Jesse Schlesinger was born in 1979 in Kentucky. He is a visual and social practice artist working and residing in San Francisco. Past solo shows include “While here”, Headlands Center for the Arts (Marin, CA, 2012) for which he was featured in the New York Times, “Green house”, General Store (San Francisco, CA, 2010), “Make of Yourself a Light”, Milk and Honey Art Gallery (Mill Valley, CA, 2009). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including: “3020 Laguna Street In Exitum”, HIGHLIGHT Gallery Projects (San Francisco, CA, 2012), “Placemaking”, San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design (San Francisco, CA, 2011), “From the Golden West Notebook”, Adobe Books Backroom Gallery (San Francisco, CA, 2011), “Sunset Circles” POPgallery (Culver City, CA, 2011), “Breaking Ranks”, Headlands Center for the Arts (Marin, CA, 2011), “Out of the Flat Files II”, Triple Base Gallery (San Francisco, CA, 2009), Eleanor Harwood Gallery (San Francisco, CA, 2009), “10x10x10″, San Francisco City Hall (San Francisco, CA, 2009), “Proposal for a Seed Library”, San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery (San Francisco, CA, 2008).

During the coming weeks, the gallery doors will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 12-6pm.

The opening show will take place on September 6, and will coincide with the book signing of HIGHLIGHT Gallery’s publication for the project, “3020 Laguna St. In Exitum,” which is being printed in an edition of 150 with a forward by Glen Hefland.
