NEW YORK, NY.- New York’s Artists Space has been invited to organize two artist 'interventions', a series of talks, and the 'bazaar' as part of abc 2012. Founded in 1972 in Downtown Manhattan, Artists Space has over the past 40 years successfully contributed to changing the institutional and economic landscape for contemporary art, by lending support to emerging artists and emerging ideas alike; often controversially and critically challenging the intellectual and artistic status quo in New York City and beyond.

For the bazaar, Artists Space has selected 27 international organizations and initiatives – from publishers to architects, record labels to fashion designers – to present their projects. The diversity of this section suggests the expanded yet interconnected field of contemporary cultural production, and the varied forms of distribution and exchange that these activities engage in. The participants are:

Abäke • AP News • Bidoun • Bless • Clemens Tissi • Common Room • Dial / Laid Records • Elgarafi • IFAU • Image Movement • Junior Aspirin Records • Kultur und Gespenster • Lost Property • May Revue • My Bauhaus Is Better Than Yours • PAN • Pazmaker • Project Projects • Pro Choice • Pro qm • Provence • Rumpsti Pumsti • Sexual Magazine • Silberkuppe • Times bar • Triple Canopy • UKS Norway

Additionally Artists Space has invited community media center and gallery Mexicali Rose, from Mexicali, Mexico, and the design collective Metahaven, from Amsterdam. Both will produce new projects within the main space of abc – these 'interventions' highlight the manner in which art and design navigates between local conditions and global economies of information and image circulation.

A series of talks organized by Artists Space will also occur at abc across the course of the weekend. Developing concerns evident both in the format of the bazaar, and the projects by Mexicali Rose and Metahaven, these presentations will address contemporary notions of exchange in relation to cultural production. Contributors will include Canadian media-theorist Arthur Kroker, and the Vancouver-based art journal Fillip presenting the research project 'Intangible Economies', initiated by artist Antonia Hirsch.

In addition to these activities in the physical space of abc, Artists Space has contributed to the editing of the publication accompanying the fair, produced by Mousse magazine. The book will include a reader, comprised of texts selected by the organizations participating in the bazaar, and responding to the underlying thematic of pluralistic cultural production, distribution and exchange that the section is structured around.
