KASSEL.- September 16, 2012 marked the final day of the dOCUMENTA (13) exhibition.

After 100 days open to the public the total number of visitors in Kassel was 860,000, amounting to 110,000 additional visitors or a 14% increase from the previous edition of documenta in 2007.

An additional 27,000 people visited the dOCUMENTA (13) exhibition held in Kabul from June 20 to July 19, 2012, bringing the total number of visitors to 887,000.

Visitor survey results and an analysis of ticket sales highlights a number of changes in how people have approached dOCUMENTA (13) and suggest a shift in how they think about contemporary art and culture.

Almost one-third of documenta’s audience is now under 29 years of age, emphasizing the importance of the ideas, events and artworks found within this edition for younger people.

Furthermore, the total number of visitors includes a 112% increase in the sale of 100-day passes (from 5,900 in 2007 to 12,500), suggesting, as Artistic Director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev states, "dOCUMENTA (13) has not been experienced by visitors only as a one-time day-ticket destination, but rather as a form of living culture that belongs to people’s lives thanks to repeated visits that break the sense of time's compression, releasing time and experience through art."

The above visitation figures are for paid attendance only and do not include accredited media and people who attended the opening professional preview days.

12,500 media were accredited over the 100 days. 5,300 professionals were also accredited for the preview held on June 7 and 8, 2012.
