SYDNEY.- The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia announced that MCA Chairman Simon Mordant AM has been reappointed for a further three-year term.

Simon Mordant has been Chairman of the Board of the MCA since July 2010. In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of the MCA Foundation which was re-established to raise funds for the $53 million capital campaign for the expansion of the Museum. He and his wife Catriona donated $15 million to the redevelopment, helping to secure additional donations from the private sector. Along with the support of the Federal, State and Local Governments, the Mordants’ pledge was instrumental in securing the new MCA.

MCA Director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE said of the reappointment: ‘Simon has been truly visionary in his support of the MCA. Indeed he has been involved since the very beginning, chairing the Finance Committee from 1996–1999. He and Catriona’s commitment to the MCA redevelopment was unprecedented for the visual arts. His leadership is invaluable and I am delighted that he has committed to the MCA for a further term.’

Simon Mordant said: ‘I am honoured to have been reappointed as Chair. The redevelopment has propelled the MCA into a world class position, full of new possibilities for art in the digital age. The MCA is a truly ambitious and entrepreneurial organisation and I am excited to work with Liz Ann and her team and the Board in delivering on our plans on deepening engagement with artists and audiences.’

Simon Mordant is Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Greenhill & Co., Inc., a leading independent corporate advisory firm. Simon specialises in advising local and multinational companies and Government on their capital markets strategy and mergers and acquisitions.

Simon has been a practising corporate adviser in Australia since 1984 having trained as a Chartered Accountant in London.
