NEW YORK, NY.- artnet Auctions announced its June 2013 sales calendar. The juxtaposition of classic and contemporary works can be found in two sales this summer: Then and Now: An Homage to the 1913 Armory Show and Point of Departure. Then and Now offers paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and works on paper created over the last 100 years, inspired by the avant-garde 1913 Armory Show. Point of Departure features a range of landscape photography—from the breathtaking to the surreal—by artists working over the last century.

Then and Now: An Homage to the 1913 Armory Show

A century after the 1913 Armory Show, artnet Auctions will showcase how Modern artists in that groundbreaking show set the course for today’s Contemporary Art. From Manet to Picasso, the pioneers of Modernism forged entirely new approaches to technique, style, and perspective. To celebrate the influence of the Modernist avant-garde, Then and Now: An Homage to the 1913 Armory Show juxtaposes Contemporary works with their Modern predecessors. The sale includes Modern works by artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Manet, Man Ray, Wesselmann, Henri Matisse, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Contemporary works by Jean-Michele Basquiat, George Condo, Robert Rauschenberg, Chuck Close, Julian Opie, and Francis Bacon.

The sale includes works by Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Bill Brandt, Harry Callahan, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Imogen Cunningham, William Eggleston, Horst P. Horst, George Hoyningen-Huene, Joel Meyerowitz, Richard Misrach, Irving Penn, Aaron Siskind, Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, and Edward Weston.
