CHICAGO, IL.- Wright opens the fall auction season on September 26, 2013 with Living Contemporary, a thoughtfully curated auction featuring nearly three hundred lots of modern and contemporary artwork and design.
Outstanding among the art offered in Living Contemporary are two works of hyperrealism: Recumbent Figure (estimate: $100,000-150,000) by John De Andrea and Cynthia by John Kacere (estimate: $30,000-50,000). De Andrea is among the best known artists associated with the hyperrealist movement, and Recumbent Figure is characteristic of the astoundingly lifelike figurative sculptures for which he is celebrated. Photorealist painter John Kacere is famous for his large body of oil paintings depicting the female torso viewed from behind. The generous scale of Cynthia, measuring nearly six feet wide and four feet high, enhances the subjects provocative sensibility. Living Contemporary also features an exceptional linocut on paper entitled Grande Tête de Femme au Chapeau (estimate: $80,000 120,000), as well as two large scale sculptures, Stainless Steel P by Fletcher Benton (estimate: $20,000 30,000) and an untitled work by Josefa Filkosky (estimate: $10,000 15,000), commissioned by A. Alfred Taubman for Brairwood Mall in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Other artists represented in the sale include Richard Long, Alexander Calder, Jean-Pierre Cassigneul, Andy Warhol, Claire Falkenstein and Patrick Demarchelier.
Living Contemporary features exceptional designs, including the Banquete chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana (estimate: $20,000 30,000). Comprised of myriad stuffed animals, the Banquete chair is among an edition of 150 unique chairs designed by the fêted Brazilian brothers. The Paris chair by French postmodern designer André Dubreuil (estimate: $7,000 9,000), a unique polyurethane dining table, the largest ever made by Louis Durot (estimate: $10,000 15,000), and the Where Theres Smoke DS3 chair by Maarten Baas (estimate: $5,000 7,000) are also sure to be popular among bidders.
