Cappuccino: Peggy Guggenheim Collection announces release of limited edition vinyl sculpture
Cappuccino will be on sale in the museum shops (140 euros).

VENICE.- The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and Tokidoki, International pop-culture brand, announced a collaborative project to present the limited edition vinyl sculpture, “Cappuccino”.

Cappuccino is a Lhasa Apso puppy, the favourite breed of the American art collector Peggy Guggenheim. It is a toy made of vinyl, 32cm high, with adjustable legs and tail, produced as a limited numbered edition of just 300. The toy evokes the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the city of Venice in several ways: Cappuccino is represented on a pedestal with an adornment in the form of the head of a lion, which references the architectural decoration of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, where the museum is located, and its outstretched arms recall those of Marino Marini’s Angel of the City(a work of art located on the museum’s terrace facing the Grand Canal). In addition, printed on the t-shirt worn by this likeable and friendly character is an image of the butterfly sunglasses designed for (and made famous by) Peggy Guggenheim by the artist Edward Melcarth.

Simone Legno, designer and creative director of Tokidoki, announced: “I am honored to have collaborated with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a highly prestigious institution on the international stage of modern and contemporary art.” Cappuccino will bepresented at a party held in the garden of the Venetian museum on September 12, and will be on sale in the museum shops (140 euros), in the Tokidoki boutique in Los Angeles, online at tokidoki.it, and in a limited number of selected retailers world-wide. An original t-shirt line inspired by the new toy has been designed specifically for the occasion. To celebrate the collaboration, Simone Legno has produced a colourful video-animation directed by Lorid Lai and based on Cappuccino’s adventures. The final version will be presented at the launching event on September 12. It will be available on the official Tokidoki web page as well as on the Peggy Guggenheim Collection web page starting September 13.
