Baltic Trust Looking for New Director

GATESHEAD, ENGLAND.- After close to 6 years at BALTIC, including the first year of public opening, BALTIC Director Sune Nordgren is to take up a new post as founding Director of the National Museum for Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway.

The BALTIC Trust is now looking for a new Director to provide strategic leadership, management and artistic vision for the continued development of BALTIC as a regional, national and international centre for the production and exhibition of contemporary art.

You will have occupied a senior artistic leadership role including significant management experience. You will have experience and understanding of contemporary art, curatorial practice and working with artists. You will be BALTIC’s public face and will have the ability to promote broad public interest in contemporary visual art as well as sustaining the interest of a more specialized audience. To help support the future of this unique project it will be necessary to continue to build effective partnerships with both public and private sectors.

BALTIC opened in the summer of 2002 and attracted nearly one million visitors in its first year. Situated on the south bank of the River Tyne, in the north of England, BALTIC lies at the heart of the regeneration of Gateshead Quays. As a major initiative for contemporary art in the North of England, BALTIC is supported by Gateshead Council and by Arts Council England.

Application packs are available to download from the BALTIC website on http://www.balticmill.com or Gateshead Council website on http://www.gatshead.gov.uk
