LONDON.- Harry Moore-Gwyn: British and Continental pictures online auction of about 140 lots taking place on 3rd – 8th July will include a particularly strong group of works by Modern British artists. These include a trio of watercolours of Welsh farming scenes by Sir Kyffin Williams OBE RA (1918-2006) with estimates starting at £2,500 to £3,500, as well as a number of works by Sir Stanley Spencer (1891 – 1959), including an important drawing depicting the artist with his second wife Patricia Preece (estimate £3,000 - £5,000). Also a study by Eric Gill (1882-1940) for his celebrated sculpture of Ariel at Broadcasting House, (pictured right) which carries an estimate of £5,000 - £7,000. Among the earlier works, a delicate pencil sketch entitled Panthea (pictured left) by Pre-Raphaelite artist Simeon Solomon (1840 – 1905) is dated 1886 and has an estimate of £4,000 - £6,000.

Oils, watercolours and drawings for all purses, starting at a mere £20 to about £10,000 from a British seascape to an Arabian desert, spanning 18th – 21st centuries will be for sale, with works by unjustly neglected artists at very reasonable estimates, such as Alfred Wolmark (1877 – 1961), Jacob Kramer (1892 – 1962), whose work, entitled ‘Portrait of a Girl’ has an estimate of £200 - £300. Also Elfreda G Beaumont (exh 1914 – 1934), her work ‘Mythological Scene’ (pictured left) also carries an estimate of £200 - £300. Other highlights include a pair of costume designs by one of Britain's most celebrated theatrical designers, Oliver Messel (1904 – 1978) for the character of Cleopatra played by Vivian Leigh for the 1945 film 'Caesar And Cleopatra', as well as an elegant Art Deco influenced costume design by Sir Cecil Beaton (1904 – 1980) and works by John Armstrong ARA (1893-1973).

Also included in the sale are works by Ronald Searle (1920 – 2011), John Piper (1903 – 1992), Rudolf Sauter (1895 – 1977), Hercules Brabazon Brabazon (1821 – 1906), John Varley (1788 – 1842), as well as two First World War caricatures in watercolour by Harold Sindson, early 20th century, estimated at £400 - £800. They appear to depict a caricature of Crown Prince Wilhelm, the oldest son of Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor, (pictured left) and Sultan Mehmed V of the Ottoman Empire.

After Oxford University, Christies Education and Sotheby’s graduate trainee scheme, Harry became a dealer in 2000 with particular emphasis on 20th century British art. His work as a curator has included exhibitions at the Science Museum, London and the Alfred East Gallery, Kettering and he exhibits regularly as a dealer at many leading London fairs. Art is in the blood; Harry is also the son of the Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s UK David Moore-Gwyn.

George Duckett was head of operations at 25 Blythe Road and started the biannual online paintings auctions in December 2012, he has successfully overseen them since them. He and Harry are using their shared expertise to help put the undiscovered and neglected British and Continental pictures back on the map as well as selling works by better known artists. They also want to encourage people to delve more deeply into the art history of an artist, and learn more about their development via composition and external influences as seen in their studies and sketches.
