BEVERLY HILLS, CA.- An Hermès Extraordinary Collection 30cm Diamond, Matte Himalayan Nilo Crocodile Birkin Bag with 18K White Gold Hardware, considered to be the most desirable handbag in the world, is expected to bring more than $150,000 and might even exceed the $203,150 record auction price paid for a diamond Birkin in 2011.
The sale of the Birkin will take place at
Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills on Sept. 23, as part of the company's Luxury Accessories Signature® Auction which includes 480 of handbags from Hermes, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and other top designers.
"This bag is so rare and sought-after that there's a very good chance it could meet or exceed the world record price we saw three years ago," said Kathleen Guzman, a Managing Director at Heritage Auctions. "This is the only time that a bag of this caliber has appeared on the luxury re-sale market. This is a dream piece for the collection of true Hermes aficionados."
Included in the auction is the extraordinarily rare Louis Vuitton Limited Edition & LCD Screen Black Epi Leather Sac Fusion by Fabrizio Plessi. The bag has an LED behind the iconic "LV" initial, which shows images of molten gold flowing through. It was created exclusively for the grand opening of the Louis Vuitton store in Hong Kong in 2008, with only 88 made in total. "The number 88 created is a lucky number in China, retailed for $50,000 when it debuted" said Guzman.
Further highlights from the handbag reception include an exclusive, sleek Louis Vuitton Motorcycle Helmet, a rarity to find stateside, and a stunning Hermès Bamboo Birkin, a new color introduced by the atelier just this year.
