112 exhibitors from 25 countries at the 13th Berliner Liste
New at this year’s contemporary art fair: Urban Art and Japanese Sections.

BERLIN.- The BERLINER LISTE is Berlin’s biggest and most international art fair, showcasing the work of 112 galleries, project groups and artists from 25 countries on five continents. The fair is open to public visitors from September 15th to 18th. The Kraftwerk Berlin hosts the exhibition for the fifth time, presenting emerging contemporary art across three impressive levels and 8000 sqm. of space.

Almost half of all exhibitors are from outside Germany, such as the Kalashnikovv Gallery from South Africa, the Australian artist Martin George and South Korea’s Art&Space 312 gallery. A particular highlight is the modern, upcycled sculptures fashioned from disused hoisting rope by Taiwanese artist Kang Mu-Xian. The Apollo Art Gallery brings likewise inspiration from Taiwan.

The Japanese Young Artist Group (JYAG) exhibition, curated by artist Rin Terada, brings together 113 contemporary Japanese artists for the first such collection on German soil. JYAG is a representative cross-section of modern Japanese art, including traditional painting techniques like Washi (hand-made paper), work with mineral colours and gold/silver leaf, Manga-style neo-pop pieces, minimalism, digital art, photography and figurative and abstract objects. The winner of the Terade Prize (worth 8500€) will be selected by the Berliner Liste curator team and announced on September 16th at 6 pm.

Following a successful launch at the KÖLNER LISTE 2016, the Urban Art Section idebuts in Berlin, curated by gallery owner and street art aficionado Guillaume Trotin. Bringing graffiti and street art from concrete urban walls into the Berliner Liste, visitors are invited into dialogue with this living, authentic and non-elite art form. Now in its fourth year, the Photography Section has established itself as an international platform for photographers with an eye for the extraordinary. Berlin photographer, author and lecturer Stefan Maria Rother has curated the selection, focusing on galleries and artists specialising in photo art.
