LOS ANGELES, CA.- Animated artwork from the iconic title sequence of the hit 1970’s television series “The Partridge Family” designed by legendary Hollywood artist Sandy Dvore will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders Auctions on October 27. It is the first time Dvore’s artwork will be auctioned. Interested bidders may participate in the auction online.

The sitcom/musical “The Partridge Family” starred Shirley Jones and a young David Cassidy. It ran from 1970-1974 on ABC and was one of the most popular shows on network television. It gained a following in the United Kingdom as well in the mid 1970’s. In 1993-1994, Nickelodeon’s “Nick at Night” aired reruns of the “Partridge Family” helping to revive the show’s popularity again. The sitcom has been syndicated on Fox Family, Hallmark Channel, ION Television and now airs on Antenna TV.

The animated title artwork featuring a mother partridge followed by her five cheepers (chicks) is one of only two-known pieces depicting the entire animated Partridge Family. Legendary title artist Sandy Dvore designed the title sequence with the mother partridge breaking out of her shell and leading her chicks for the show’s pilot. It appeared in its entirety because the graphics were novel and clever. In 1969, when the pilot was produced, color imagery for television shows was in its infancy and title sequences mostly consisted of black and white typeface listing the show’s name. Dvore decided not only to incorporate color but also used animation that had been limited to cartoons. Dvore took the color cues from the Piet Mondrian-inspired bus that the family drove.

Described as an imagemaker, artist, frontrunner and innovator, Sandy Dvore is one of the most prominent and brilliant designers of all-time. Dvore’s career began in the 1960’s developing illustrated trade ads for Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and other prominent Hollywood stars in “The Hollywood Reporter” and “Variety.” He went into designing company logos developing the original logos for Lorimar, ICM and United Artist. He branched off into television and designed the main titles for “The Waltons,” “The Partridge Family,” “Knot’s Landing,” and “The Young and the Restless.” Dvore’s titles for Carol Burnett’s special, “Carol, Carl, Whoopi and Robin” won an Emmy in 1987.

For the motion pictures business, Dvore developed a new art form, the film trade art campaign. Dvore created memorable campaign images for “Lawrence of Arabia “and “The Great Escape.”

In 2010-2011, the Beverly Hills-based Paley Center for Media did a retrospective on Dvore’s career.
