SEATTLE, WA.- Geneva Griswold has joined
SAMs conservation department as its associate objects conservator.
We are delighted that Geneva has joined the museum staff, said Nicholas Dorman, SAMs chief conservator. Her experience and skills are a perfect fit for our needs. Conservation work so often happens behind the scenes, but it is a critical component of what we do. Having Geneva on board as we embark on significant renovations at the Asian Art Museum will really enhance our ability to conserve, study, and care for its collection.
Geneva will focus on the conservation and preventive care of SAMs pre-modern collections. Working closely with SAMs curators and conservation team, she will execute necessary treatments and advise on matters related to installation, storage, display, and preservation of pre-modern works of art. Her first major assignment will be preparing the extensive collection of the Asian Art Museum to move during the temporary closure of the museum for a renovation and expansion that will begin in 2017.
Prior to SAM, Geneva was the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and held positions at the Walters Art Museum and the Getty Conservation Institute. Her research includes technical analysis of featherwork and treatment of decorative surfaces. Her archaeological fieldwork includes seasons at Herculaneum and Abydos, Egypt.
Geneva obtained an M.A. in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art and an M.A. from the UCLA/Getty Program in the Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Materials.
