SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present "Rembrandt to Yoshida," on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 10:30 am PDT, featuring over 160 lots – an intriguing selection of artworks, sculptures, decorative arts and more that span more than two millennia. Highlights include etchings by Rembrandt van Rijn, an original engraving by Albrecht Dürer, Japanese woodblock prints, ancient Roman or Greek and Etruscan antiquities; a 19th-century folio of 36 color lithographs of ancient Greek ceramics; and letters signed or written by U.S. presidents.

Turner Auctions + Appraisals begins its online auction on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 10:30 am PDT; sale items are available for preview and bidding now. The auction will be featured live on four platforms: LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, Bidsquare and Turner Auctions + Appraisals’ free mobile app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Apps ("Turner Auctions"). All are easily accessed through ‘Upcoming Auctions’ at the company’s website.

Among items in the September 8 sale from ancient times are an Etruscan chalice and ewers, and a two-handled Greek pottery bowl from Gela (Sicily) from the 4th-century BC; and a Roman bronze of a cherub and a Greek or Roman marble head from 200 BC – 200 AD. From the 15th-17th centuries are works on paper by Agostino Veneziano, Samuel Van Hoogstraten, Augustin Hirschvogel, a number of etchings of Venice by Luca Carlevaris, and a Ming dynasty Chinese porcelain figure. Items from the 18th century include artworks by Paul Sandby, Francisco Goya, Richard Earlom and William Hogarth; two letters signed by Louis XV of France; an Austrian-Hungarian patent of nobility; and 14 maps of Paris. Among the items from the 19th century are works by Maurice Galbraith Cullen, James McNeill Whistler, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir; drawings of nudes; a ship's masthead; and Japanese wine bottles. Paintings from the 20th century include artists such as Douglas Fenn Wilson, Claude Marechal, Rene Cottet, Stanley Friedman, Edward Wolverton and Stanley Morel Cosgrove; a collection of poems and drawings entitled "Song of Songs" by A. B. Spellman; a 1938 limited edition collection of 346 Albrecht Dürer etchings; and books and photo albums.

An extensive offering of Japanese woodblock prints from 18th-20th centuries includes from Toshi Yoshida, Tanaka Ryohei, Tokuriki Tomikichiro, Rokushu Mizufune, Hirokazu Yamaguchi, Utagawa Kuniyoshi and Kikagawa Eizen. Signed or written letters or envelopes by U.S. presidents include Franklin D. Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, Martin Van Buren and James Monroe.

Lot 55: Agostino Veneziano (1490-1569). An engraving titled "The Carcass," circa 1515. Matte size: 17 ¼ inches high x 29 ¾. Image size: 12 inches high x 24 ¾. Condition: Good. Date: 16th century. Estimate: $3,000-4,000.

Lot 32: A Late Ming Dynasty Chinese Polychrome Porcelain Figure. Size: 9 inches high x 2 ¾ wide x 2 deep. Condition: Some loss to fingers on one hand, very small chips to presentation offering. Date: 15th century. Estimate $300-500.

Lot 34: An 18th-century Austrian-Hungarian Patent of Nobility, with accompanying bound text, hand-painted royal seal and grant letter signed Marie Therese, dated 1780. Book measuring 14 inches high x 10 and seal container measuring 1 1/2 inches high x 6 diameter. Condition: Seal damaged but complete. Estimate $1,000-2,000.

Lot 125: "Mt. Rainier in Winter," a print by Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995). Signed lower right. Frame size: 22 ½ inches high x 28 ¾. Image size: 12 inches high x 19 ½. Condition: Good Date: 20th century. Estimate $200-400.

Lot 59: A 17th century drawing/watercolor attributed to Samuel Van Hoogstraaten (1627-1678), archived and titled "Harbour Scene" on frame reverse. Frame: 12 ¾ inches high x 12. Matte: 9 ½ inches high x 9. Image: 5 ½ inches high x 5. Medium: Drawing/watercolor on paper. Condition: Good. Date: 17th century. Estimate $2,000-4,000.

Lot 56: Jacques Callot (1592 - 1635). Twentythree etchings from the series of twenty-four of street performers. Paper size: 3 ½ inches high x 4 ¼. Image size: 3 inches high x 3 ¾. Condition: Good. Date: 17th century. Estimate $1,000-1,500.

Lot 39: A Painted Etruscan Terra Cotta Ewer, circa 4th century BC. Size: 7 inches high x 4 ½ diameter. Condition: Small rim chip. Estimate $400-600.

Lot 136: "Shoren-In Tree," an etching by Tanaka Ryohei (born 1933). Signed lower right and 12/150 lower left. Paper size: 11 inches square. Image size: 7 ½ inches square. Condition: Good. Date: 1995. Estimate: $150-250.

Lot 57: An Original Engraving of St. Paul by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), with Associated American Artists, New York certificate of authenticity. Size paper: 10 inches high x 7. Size artwork: 4 ½ inches high x 3. Condition: Good. Date: 15th / 16th century. Estimate $1,000-2,000.
