VIENNA, AUSTRIA.- The Albertina Museum presents Marc Chagall, through March 28, 2005. Marc Chagalls biblical stories are the masterpieces of his art. For Chagall the poetry of the Bible had always been a well of inspiration.
The Albertina for the first time exhibits the great cycles of the 1950s and 1960s, which are highlighted by the Russian artists 17 late works, the Message Biblique from the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Nice.
More than 150 paintings, water colours, pastels and gouaches allow an insight into Chagalls interpretation of the Holy Script. In his very own pictorial language Chagall knows how to imaginatively capture the myths of the Old Testament in epic depth.
Marc Chagall was born in Witebsk, White Russia, in 1887 to a poor Jewish family. He is one of the most important precursors of the modern age.
