Lucia Day is celebrated in Sweden on 13 December every year. Although the festival originated in Syracuse in Italy, the Swedes have added their own focus to proceedings, using festivities to light up one of the darkest days of the year. Lucia traditionally serves a breakfast of glogg (a sweet, mulled red wine served with almonds and raisins), saffron-laced Lucia buns and gingerbread biscuits.
