Lens Celebrates Selection of Louvre Museum Annex

LENS, FRANCE.- Giant giraffes parade 04 December 2004 in front of the townhall in the northern French town of Lens during celebrations after he town was selected as the site of an annexe to the Louvre museum in Paris as part of a plan to culturally and economically boost neglected parts of the country. The 16,000-square-metre (172,000-square-foot) modern annexe will hold some of the Paris gallery's vast collection of unseen treasures and is expected to attract thousand of tourists a year one it is completed in 2009.
