Hiring a cruise by the Nile: The important tips

Do you want to navigate the legendary waters of the Nile but do not know where to start hiring a cruise on the Nile? In this post we are going to tell you about our experience and we try to help you decide what best suits your tastes. In each travel package to Egypt offered by the agencies, the Cairo and Nile cruise are included. Thus, it may seem like something very touristy and away from a real trip, and in part it is true, because the river is filled with these eighty cruise ships loaded with foreigners. However, even then it is still a special experience.

Sail for a few days along the legendary Nile River, float slowly over its waters, see how life unfolds on both sides, visit millenary temples, contemplate sunrises and sunsets from the deck ... For us it is highly recommended and that’s why we recommend Nile Cruises 2020.

OK. But what is the best cruise on the Nile? All you have to do is choose what type of cruise you want, depending on the budget you have, of course. Surely if you have in mind to do so you will be invaded by a lot of doubts, so in this post we will summarize what exactly this trip consists of according to our experience and we give you a few tips to hire a cruise on the Nile.

Here we leave you a few tips to travel to Egypt (and not screw it up)

What is the best time to cruise the Nile?

We traveled in December and we thought it was a great time: it is hot during the day, without being overwhelming. Of course, in the mornings and evenings a coat is almost mandatory. Therefore, the best time would be between November and February. In the rest of the months, and especially in summer, temperatures can be a big problem, reaching almost 50 degrees! Of course, we do not touch the pool!

Is it better to hire the Nile cruise online or once at the port?

If you do not travel with an agency package you have two options when hiring the cruise: do it online or at the port. Our recommendation is online! They told us that it can be quite an odyssey to do it at the port, between commission agents and scammers.

What are the cabins like?

They are larger than we imagined, although the bed may be a bit fair for tall people. You can choose between rooms with a double bed or two single beds, and they have a bathroom (with a fairly large shower and a shower of those for massages), a fridge, a table with chairs, flat screen TV, air conditioning, and most importantly: a super window which opens from which you can enjoy the views while browsing (all rooms have it).

Tip: it is best to try to be on the top floor (third or fourth) and as far as possible from the boat (the smaller numbers), to be away from the engines. For example room 401 would be the perfect one (we only consider the numbering of our ship)

And how are the boats?

There are different categories (5 standard stars, 5 luxury stars, 5 luxury stars). Ours, was a standard 5 star but it really was better than we expected. We pass through several reception rooms and, in general, they are all very similar (you should see the rooms and the food service).

Ours had 5 floors: in the one below (1) is the restaurant, in the main one (2) the reception and a few rooms, the 3rd floor was only for rooms (it is where we were), the 4 was destined to a bar where shows and parties are held at night (in addition to more rooms) and on the 5th floor is the deck, with a bar, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and tables and sun beds where you can take the sun and watch life on the Nile.

The Nile cruise meals

There are 4 meals: breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. All are included in packages except drinks. Even if you don't worry, the budget won't shoot for this. The breakfast is buffet and has hot salty dishes, cold dishes, sweets, eggs, cereals and fruits. There are also juices (bad ones, those of dusts), coffee and tea.
