Cork to showcase the Zurich Portrait Prize exhibition which will feature a new competition especially for young artists

For the first time in history, the Zurich Portrait Prize exhibition will leave the Irish capital of Dublin and will instead be showcased in Cork.

In addition, this year’s exhibition, which will take place in the Crawford Art Gallery from January 31st to April 13th will feature a new competition for young artists aged from three to 18.

The Zurich Portrait Prize is renowned across Irish and European art circles. It presents to audiences a fresh perspective on portraiture whilst the prize giving ensures excitement and anticipation. The exhibition is now in its sixth year.

The Crawford Art Gallery will show 26 works in total. As you would expect, the stunning works come in a variety of forms including painting, photography, video and mixed media.

The winner of this year’s main prize is Enda Bowe. Bowe hails from Ireland but lives and works in London.

The first winner of the Zurich Young Painter Prize is a photograph named ‘The New Age’ by two 12-year-old cousins from Dublin, Mabel Forsyth and Mary O’Carroll.

The winner of the main prize receives a cash prize of €15,000 and a commission worth €5000.

The Zurich Portrait Prize is named after the prizes sponsor, Zurich. Zurich are one of hundreds of companies that are proud to sponsor the arts. Other sponsors of the arts in Europe include banks, food manufacturers, online retailers, online casinos and a variety of others.

Admission to view the exhibition is free.
