Strasbourg Court Sentences Art Thief to 26 Months |

STRASBOURG, FRANCE.- A Strasbourg court gave art thief Stephane Breitwieser a the three-year sentence. There will be a 10-month suspension, so he will only have to serve 26 months of it. The day before the ruling he attempted to commit suicide in jail by trying to hang himself, but a cellmate raised the alarm and they stopped him. Mireille Stengel, the mother of Breitwieser received a three-year sentence with an 18-month suspension for having destroyed more than 200 works stolen by her son. Anne-Catherine Kleinklauss, the former girlfriend of Breitwieser, was given a six-month sentence for receiving stolen items.
