Prescription Opioids: 4 Extremely Addictive Prescription Opioids

Like kratom capsules, you can buy prescription opioids and narcotics online in different forms such as tablets, injectable solutions, powder, and oral solutions.

Prescription opioids refer to a class of drugs prescribed by physicians and legally used in relieving moderate to severe pain. Some prescriptions are highly addictive than others. In this article, we will explore in detail the extremely addictive prescription opioids.

In some cases, prescription opioids also treat coughing and diarrhea.

Narcotics refer to drugs or substances that impact the mind and nervous system. They are commonly used for non-medical purposes. The term narcotics sometimes refer to opioids.

Although opioids are for medical purposes, people abuse them (uses a prescription opioid for recreation purposes) as they have relaxation properties, and they make the users feel “high.” These properties mostly lead to overdose. According to a DEA survey, about 18.9 million Americans of 12 and above years abuses prescription opioids. Nearly three million are addicted.

Survey also concludes that about 90 Americans die of prescription opioids overdose every day.

Let’s now dive into discussing the highly addictive prescription opioids.

Extremely Addictive Prescription Opioids

1. Fentanyl

Fentanyl (fentanil) is a synthetic pharmaceutical opioid prescribed for severe pain, mostly after surgery. It is more potent than almost all prescription opioids ( it is 90-100 times more potent than morphine).

Fentanyl is exceptionally addictive and has a high potential of overdose – few milligrams of fentanyl have a significant effect on the body. It is one of the most commonly abused drugs in the United States. However, most abused fentanyl opioid is obtained illegally, mostly made in the lab and sold in powder form.

Fentanyl is in the Schedule I Controlled Substance category (lack acceptable safety use under medical supervision) but is often prescribed to patients with a tolerance of other prescription opioids, usually prescribed with other narcotic medication for occasional use.

Fentanyl prescription brand names include Actiq, Duragesic, Sublimaze, Subsys, Abstral, and Lazanda.

Note; mixing fentanyl with other narcotics is lethal and can result in an overdose and death.

2. Oxycodone
Oxycodone is a form of opioid made by modifying organic chemical (thebaine) available in the opium poppy plant. It is a prescription drug used as an around-the-clock relief of moderate to severe pain. They also have euphoric effects on the users. These, among other properties, such as reducing anxiety, that oxycodone has to the users increase their potential for abuse. They are highly addictive if abused. The fast-reaction property also increases the potential for abuse.

The prescription form of oxycodone comes in slow-release tablets (for long-standing pain), capsule, and liquid form (for short-standing pain). Tablets have long-term effects. However, crushing or chewing the tablets bypasses the reaction time. The pills and liquid form have short-term results that last up to six hours.

Oxycodone comes in various brand names depending on the chemical formulae, use, and effectiveness. The common brand names include Percocet, Roxicodone, OxyContin, among others.

3. Hydrocodone
Hydrocodone is the most abused opioid worldwide. It is the most abused prescription opioid and highly addictive – users can become dependent on the drug in less than a week. Although there has been a gradual decrease in the usage of this opioid over the past years, hydrocodone is recording significantly high usage, particularly in the United States. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), 99% of the total hydrocodone supply is consumed in America. At least 8 million Americans are addicted to hydrocodone.

Hydrocodone is a semisynthetic opioid, usually prescribed in treating moderate to severe pain, often short-term pain following injury or surgery. It is an orally administered drug (in tablet form), but it is often abused through crushing the tablet and snorting, smoking, or injecting it, thereby bypassing its reaction time.

It also has antitussive (cough suppressants) properties. Additionally, hydrocodone poses euphoria properties.

Like other opiates, hydrocodone binds to the opioid receptors in the brain and nervous system, resulting in analgesia, euphoria, respiratory depression, and physical dependence.

Hydrocodone also comes in various brand names, which include Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, and Zohydro.

4. Hydromorphone
Hydromorphone is a morphine-derived semisynthetic prescription opioid. It is, however, more potent and highly addictive than morphine. It is usually used as an alternative pain management plan when other pain relievers are ineffective. Its effect can last up to 12 hours.

Hydromorphone also has euphoria and extreme relaxation properties. These properties also intensify its abuse potential significantly. Addiction to hydromorphone can occur within 14 days of continuous use.

Today, hydromorphone come in tablets, capsules, injectable and oral solution, which are in either immediate-release or extended-release form. People abuse the opioid by crushing and snorting the powder or injecting the solution for recreation purposes.

Like most prescription opioids, hydromorphone is categorized as schedule II controlled substances due to its high potential for misuse and addiction.

Hydromorphone brand names include Dilaudid, Exalgo, Dilaudid-5, and Palladone.

Conclusion
Although prescription opioids are useful in the medical processes, they are lethal and can result in more complex health issues if abused. Some are highly addictive and have severe withdrawal symptoms. However, opioid addiction is reversible through medical-assisted treatment and therapies and Asian herbs such as kratom capsules.
