GLEN COVE, NY.- Outdoor Bronze statues and a finely curated selection of Asian decorative items took the lead on August 7th, 2021 at Roland Auctions NY online only sale of the Collection of Congressman Lester L. Wolff.

The auction featured a unique collection of Asian art, decorative items and bronzes, amassed over many years by the renowned American Statesman, diplomat, civil rights proponent, businessman, and philanthropist. Lester L.Wolff, served as a vocal member of the United States House of Representatives from Long Island from 1965 until 1981, where he distinguished himself as an expert in Asian affairs. He proudly displayed his collection in his home in East Norwich, NY.

Online bidding soared quickly, with many sought after items selling high. These included a Carrara Marble Double Pedestal Console Table, featuring a beveled top bearing a finely carved foliate apron over double column supports with floral relief designs on a plinth. [28" H x 36" W x 16 1/4" D; Base only: 37" W x 17" D], selling for $6,250, a group of 4 Carved Jade Pendants, 1) Three foo dogs and octopus [1 3/4" H x 2 5/8" W]. 2) Stylized bird with leaf in beak [1 7/8" H x 2 1/4" W]. 3) Bi disc with knotted rope surround [1 7/8" H x 2 1/8" W]. 4) Serpent and noose [1 5/8" H x 1 7/8" W], selling high at $6875, a pair of Bronze Hippocanthus, naturalistically rendered mythological beasts in an opposing rearing composition face to face circa 1970s. [29" H x 13" W x 15" D], which sold for $5625, a Bronze Outdoor Statue of Girl on Boy's Shoulders, full length depiction of children earnestly launching a kite skyward, [72" H], selling for $3438 and a pair of large antique Kutani Chinese vases, with dragon mounts. (33 1/4" H x 15 1/2" W), selling for $3125.

The momentum continued with an early Chinese Porcelain Tile, signed, depicting a beautiful story, possibly asking for a hand in marriage. (12 3/4" x 18 1/2"), going for $3438, a Bronze Outdoor Statue of Large Tiger, pensive depiction of the predator on the hunt, [26" H x 60" W x 13" D], which sold for $2812, a monumental outdoor Bronze garden fountain, signed S Keliam, featuring a classical putti boy with three mythological dolphin figures around, which are spouts. (43" H x 42" W x 31" D), selling for $3438, a Chinese porcelain blue & white dragon charger, decorated on both sides. (27" Diam.), selling for $2000, a pair of large vintage Chinese Cloisonne enamel horses, each with bright enamels. (33" H x 38" W x 11" D), which sold for $2375 and a monumental outdoor Asian bronze warrior on horseback, on a wood base. (52" H x 36" W x 18" D), which went for $2812.

This auction of the Collection of Congressman Lester L. Wolff was one of many Roland Auctions’ single-owner, specialized sales throughout this year, in addition to monthly estate sales. After more than four decades based in Manhattan, Roland Auctions relocated to Long Island’s North Shore, the historic “Gold Coast” in 2018.
