Lot no. 45, a two-row necklace composed of 121 pieces of Zambian emerald beads weighing 1103.76 cts achieved the highest sales price in the jewellery category and was realised at INR 1,37,65,500.



MUMBAI.- AstaGuru's recent auction titled ‘Heirloom Jewellery, Silver, and Timepieces,’ held on October 26-27, 2021 generated a total sales value of INR 12,55,98,033 Crores (US$ 1,744,390). The jewellery segment of the auction was finely curated with 50 lots of exquisite heirloom and vintage pieces created with some of the highest quality gems from across the globe. The magnificent collection also showcased the deft jewellery craftsmanship from Europe and the Indian subcontinent with Art Deco pieces and traditional Indian gold jewellery. The auction with a total of 133 lots also showcased hallmark silver collectables, as well as exceptional timepieces from top watch brands in the world.

Commenting on the results Jay Sagar, Jewellery Specialist, AstaGuru, said, “We are very happy with the auction results which indicates the fact that vintage and heirloom jewellery is very much in demand by the collectors. A Two - Row Zambian Emerald necklace executed with 121 graduating beads achieved the highest sales price in the jewellery category at INR 1,37,65,500. Over the years, Zambian emeralds have been highly sought after by jewellery collectors due to their extremely high quality and unique appearance. Natural pearls also hold a special place for collectors as shown by the second-highest value lot of the auction."

Lot no. 45, a two-row necklace composed of 121 pieces of Zambian emerald beads weighing 1103.76 cts achieved the highest sales price in the jewellery category and was realised at INR 1,37,65,500. Another necklace, lot no. 50, a beautiful three-row necklace composed of 192 graduated natural pearls weighing 545 chau was acquired at INR 1,26,18,375. The necklace is secured by an Art Deco platinum clasp set with old cut diamonds and diamond baguettes. An extraordinary choker, lot no. 11, composed of 29 Burmese rubies weighing 140.00 cts approx was acquired at the auction for INR 74,00, 250. The flexible choker is designed as a series of fifteen square-shaped panels set in gold with 42 large rose-cut diamonds weighing 45.00 cts approx. Lot no. 23, a two-row natural pearl necklace executed with 154 graduating natural pearls weighing 294 chau was acquired at INR 62,61,750. The allure of this distinguished necklace is complemented with a vintage gold clasp set with old cut diamonds and an emerald.




Lot no. 41 showcased a stunning example of jewellery made with a fancy vivid diamond with an 18K ring set with a dazzling fancy yellow 6.13 cts diamond. The coloured diamond is flanked on either side with two half-moon diamonds. The lot was acquired at INR 42,69,375.

The silver segment of the auction retraced the deft metalworking in India and Europe in the bygone era with creations from some of the finest makers of silver antiquity. Presented in lot no. 63 was an antique hallmarked Indian colonial silver table service set created circa 1821 by celebrated British silver manufacturing company Hamilton & Co. The rare set weighing 21.712 kgs and consisting of eight large dinner serving pieces was acquired at INR 37,57,050. An important French high-grade silver flatware service for a party of 24 guests by Cardeilhac, Paris, circa 1950 and comprising 386 items, was acquired at INR 30,30,687. Lot no. 78 showcased an elegant Portuguese silver centrepiece consisting of a pair of candelabras and jardinière on a mirrored plateau with four stylized plinths. The jardinière comes with a mesh cover top that can be used to arrange flowers and was acquired at INR 23,26,939. A stunning Art Deco, sterling silver trolley, lot no. 57, with two open mirrored glass shelves, were acquired at INR 20,83,596. With oval-shaped galleries and casters for effortless movement, the trolley created circa 1930 is perfect for serving while entertaining guests.

A fascinating horological collection with rare and exceptional world-class timepieces was also presented during the auction. Commenting on the results Deepak Krishnamoorthy, Timepiece Specialist, AstaGuru, said, “AstaGuru successfully achieved the aim of catering to the demands of luxury and vintage watches for the collectors by offering exquisite and rare timepieces. The auction presented a great opportunity for serious as well as budding collectors to acquire rare timepieces.”

Some of the highlights include lot 127, a Rolex- 18K Yellow Gold & Diamond Oyster Perpetual Lady Datejust. The dial of the timepiece is set with 291 diamonds. The bezel is set with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds. The three-piece solid links, set with 596 brilliant-cut diamonds. It was acquired at INR 34,15,500. Lot no. 122, a Piaget- Limited Edition Emperador Cushion Wristwatch was acquired at INR 31,87,800. The 18k white gold mother-of-pearl dial is set with 164 brilliant-cut diamonds. Another Rolex timepiece, lot no. 129, an 18k Yellow Gold Daytona Cosmograph Wristwatch was acquired at INR 30,05,640. It also has a handmade Swiss chronometer certified (COSC). This Daytona is presented in a solid gold case and bracelet.
