Christie's presents the Online-Only Contemporary Art July Sales

NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announced a series of three online-only Contemporary Art sales: Contemporary Edition, First Open and Trespassing. The group of sales include a selection of exceptional works from leading contemporary and 20th century artists. With estimates ranging from $500 to $200,000, these sales offer an extensive range of options for both new and seasoned contemporary art collectors. The works will be available for public viewing at Christie’s galleries in Rockefeller Center starting 13 July, closing from 19-21 July.

CONTEMPORARY EDITION

Featuring more than 120 Post-War and Contemporary Prints and Multiples with estimates starting below $1,000, the Contemporary Edition sale features works for those just beginning their collecting journey and seasoned connoisseurs alike. The sale highlights works from master printmakers such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and David Hockney, as well as contemporary market stars including Shara Hughes and Tschabalala Self.

Leading the sale is Andy Warhol’s, Mick Jagger: one print (estimate $100,000 – 150,000), a screenprint in colors signed by both Warhol and subject, Mick Jagger. Among the sale offerings are also a multiple in vibrant quilted fabric by Tschabalala Self, Sapphire (estimate $8,000-12,000), an archival pigment print in colors by Shara Hughes, Split Ends (estimate $7,000-10,000), and a complete set of eight screenprints from Julian Opie, New York Couples. (estimate $100,000-150,000).

FIRST OPEN




The First Open sale presents an opportunity for collectors to get their hands on works from the most in-demand and significant Post-War and Contemporary artists including Ernie Barnes, Stanley Whitney, Lynne Drexler and Andy Warhol. Highlights in the sale also come from important private collections: The Collection of Margo Leavin, Property from the Estate of Sondra Gilman, and LA Cool: Property from the Laura Lee Stearns Collection.

The sale is led by Ernie Barnes’ Juba Dis an Juba Dat from 1960 (estimate $100,000-150,000). Also highlighted is Malcolm Morley’s Triton (estimate $80,000-120,000). Works from contemporary artists include Lynne Drexler’s Untitled (estimate $40,000-60,000) and Hernan Bas’ The Start of Something New (estimate $60,000-80,000).

TRESPASSING

Curated in partnership with leading NFT and art collector and advisor, Ronnie K. Pirovino, the Trespassing sale brings together a collection of works from the most innovative and cutting-edge artists of today. The sale includes works across collecting categories that trace graffiti’s influence on contemporary art and embrace the energy and humor of artists inspired by the medium. Trespassing includes works by Katherine Bernhardt, Edgar Plans, KAWS and ThankYouX together with lots by Hajime Sorayama, Javier Calleja and Roby Dwi Antono. The sale will also feature a special group of artwork curated by 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. Together with Inna Modja, 1-54 has curated a selection of three 1/1 NFTs by digital artists Inna Modja, Andre O’Shea, and Moon, Sun, Diamond. In collaboration with Code Green, 1-54 has announced that a portion of the proceeds of these NFTs will go to the Great Green Wall project, which aims to restore the continent’s degraded landscapes. Also included in the auction are 1/1 NFTs by Skygolpe, Joshua Davis, Blake Kathryn, FVCKRENDER, and GMUNK.


The top lot in the sale is (UNTITLED) KRUSTY by KAWS (estimate $100,000-150,000) followed by a complete portfolio Temporary Friends by Nina Chanel Abney (estimate $60,000-80,000). Other highlights include works of varying subject matter from contemporary artists at a range of price points. Javier Calleja’s playful REDHEAD (estimate $10,000-15,000) is contrasted by Hajime Sorayama’s charged Sexy Robot - 1/3 Scale Aluminum_A (estimate $25,000-35,000).
